Design & Built

So, Asus from the previous launch of Zenfone 3 Series has worked a lot on their design part and is focusing more on premium and luxury segment. So as this time, Asus has created the marvelous piece, where they have used metal, with a little bit of plastic on top and a bottom portion and even after that they have achieved to give the battery of 5000mAh with so light weight. When you take the device in hand, it feels so light and compact. It is due to obviously because of 5.2″ Screen, but still, Asus Zenfone 3s Max is so sleek and light weight that you just can’t imagine it holds up a 5000mAh battery inside it.

Starting with the Design part, At the front part of the phone at the top you will get an 8MP shooter beside it different sensors and LED notification light.

Coming little bit down, you will get a 5.2″ HD display and yes no Full HD display is present on the phone. The display will give you with the resolution of 720 X 1280 and pixel density of 282ppi.

Coming little bit down it houses on screen navigation back buttons and no capacitive back buttons which should be added instead of on screen keys because at the front part it also houses a home Screen button which also acts as a fingerprint sensor.

Now coming to the down portion of the phone it houses a Micro-USB port, beside it you will get dual Speaker grills out of which only right one is having the actual speaker whereas on the left grill there is a Primary MIC in it.

Turning around to the left side you will get a Hybrid SIM tray slot which means you can add two sims at a time or single sim + Micro Sd Card which support up to 256 of Expansion.

Turning the phone to the other side, you will get volume rockers and power lock key which works pretty well and gives quite good response while you use them. One thing which I want to mention over here is that on Power lock key there is some kind of patterned feel on it which make it easy to differentiate between power lock key and volume rockers.

Finally coming to the back portion of the phone it houses a 13MP shooter beside it a Dual Tone LED flash and between the camera module and Flash houses a secondary noise cancellation MIC. The whole back panel is made up metal which also has ASUS branding over it and a Single antenna line which also act as a division between metal and plastic.

 Display

Asus-zenfone3s-max-display-panel

Asus Zenfone 3s Max comes up with a 5.2-inch HD Display with a resolution of 720 x 1280 and a pixel density of 282 ppi. The colors are vibrant and vivid. White balance feels perfect and makes it a pleasant display to use as we already see in other ASUS devices. There are different color profiles that you can choose as per your taste as well as they have added the feature of Blue Light Filter which will help your eyes while using the phone in the night or in the dark.

The Sunlight legibility in Asus Zenfone 3s Max is fine and I have no complains with its auto-brightness feature because it works perfectly. Viewing Angle is good and while watching movies or playing games from odd angle won’t affect you in any way.

Performance

asus-zenfone-3s-max-techniblogic-antutu

Asus Zenfone 3s Max is powered by the Mediatek MT 6750 and is supported with a 3GB ram. The performance of the phone is quite well and you can almost run any kind high-end game or multi-task on it with no lag and sluggishness. I have mentioned that it won’t give you lag or slugginess, but it gets sometimes hangs (one time in 2 days for me.). It hangs in such a way that the display will remain on and every other function will stop working. So, at this point, you need to press the power lock key for about 20 seconds to make it reboot. This was the only flaw I noticed while using the device which might get fixed in future updates. I know the processor they are offering is pretty old, but still, it is able to handle any heavy games and Video for it already there where u have tested different games like BULLY, GTA, NOVA 3 with no lag.

While doing gaming for more than 40 minutes continuously, the device gets heated up to up to 41 degrees. , which seems to be a little bit high. But one thing I want to mention is that the games which we were tested were all in high graphics. You can imagine playing BULLY in High graphics.

Asus zenfone 3s Max also has almost all the sensor which a consumer can demand but lags with no Gyroscope sensor in it which is used for VR capabilities.

Camera

Asus-zenfone3s-max-Camera-manual-mode

Now coming to the camera compartment of Asus Zenfone 3s Max, it comes with a 13MP shooter with a Dual Tone LED Flash. As always Camera of Zenfone 3s Max is decent. In daylight, it can capture some amazing shots, and by using a manual mode, you can take some more incredible shots which we share on our Instagram. Rest when we try to take shot indoor you get a little bit noise in the shots which you can remove by adding any simple filter to it. But taking shots at the night is not at all good too much noise it there. But the best thing is that by using a tripod you can take long exposure photos using manual mode which will just come out awesome with no noise that too in the night.

All these stuff can be fixed by simple updates. Overall in the price, the camera is decent, and as well all know the phone is more battery centric and not camera centric.

Asus-zenfone3s-max-Camera-app

Coming to the front facing the camera, it houses an 8MP shooter which camera descents shots and while taking a selfie in beauty mode it came out really great. We cannot compare zenfone 3s front camera with other competitors like Oppo f1s and vivo v5 plus, as they are selfie-centric phones only.

Asus-zenfone3s-max-Camera-video-recording

Overall camera of Zenfone 3s is decent in its price and you can get some great shots by using a manual mode. Still, if we compare the front facing camera of Zenfone 3s Max with Redmi Note 4, Zenfone 3s max front camera is way better from redmi note 4, but back camera of Redmi Note 4 is better. Now you will get a better idea of the camera. I have also attached some of the camera samples.

Software

asus-zenfone-3s-max-techniblogic-software

Asus zenfone 3s Max comes with Android 7 nougat out of the box which is really great. Zenfone 3s Max runs on there own custom skin of ZenUI which is quite well optimized for battery purpose, but one drawback which I noticed is that it consume a way more RAM because of ZenUI and there pre-installed Software which we have to remove in any cases.

Overall, this time with Android 7 they have worked a lot on it. Overall the UI is more battery centric and optimize the battery pretty well.

Battery

Asus-Zenfone-3s-max-Battery-Charging

Asus Zenfone 3s Max comes up with a 5000 mAh battery which gives you and incredible awesome battery backup. We have been running the device with 2 SIM’s, and 4G was continuously on with JIO, and even after that there were 5 email ID’s which were syncing on a regular basis, different apps and more than 6 High-end games and take my words it was a very heavy usage. Even after that more than 51% juice was left until the end of the day. The only drawback was that there is no Fast charging support is there. Overall the battery performs really very well. It took me about 3 hours 4 minutes to charge from 0% to 96%. It is pretty fast from previous generation Asus zenfone Max but still we need fast or ultra fast charging in these battery centric devices.

You can also use this phone as a power bank because it support reverse charging using a micro USB OTG adapter.

Overall if you are a heavy user, and only need battery centric device which can last you more than 2 days very easily, then this device is meant for you. The battery is, and compactness is the USP of the phone.

As per my views, I really like the device in built as well design. The phone gives you perfect grip in hand, and it won’t slip very easily. The display panel is quite good with some great colors. The camera is decent, and the most highlighted feature of the phone is the battery as it will last you more than 2 days very easily.

The phone is only battery centric and so as their UI which is well optimized for battery.
