Government of Haryana partners with J-PAL South Asia to use data to improve health care

The government of Haryana and Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (j-PAL) South Asia along with the National Health Mission (NHM)  have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to systematically integrate the use of data and evidence from past researches in order to improve state programme implementation and health outcomes.

J-PAL is a global research centre that works to reduce poverty by ensuring that policy is informed by scientific evidence. It was launched at Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2003.

Benefits of the Partnership

  1. The partnership will seek to build the capacity of Health Service Providers and departmental staff. The motive will be to improve the quality of data collected through the state government ‘s health information systems
  2.  National Health Mission has committed to offering a continuous collaboration with J-PAL to apply data and result from impact evaluation to strengthen NHM decision making.
  3. NHM is expanding the coverage and use of its new health information systems for frontline workers.
  4. The partnership will allow the NHM to strengthen its data collection system. These data can then be used to implement a stronger programme in areas of material and child health and non-communicable diseases, among children

As per the memorandum of understanding, the first engagement is to leverage data from the ANMOL applications in order to improve immunization rates via identification of local ambassadors who can help and mobilise for community participation in the immunization camps. It will lead to the expansion of the innovative immunization intervention. This intervention was a huge success when it was recently evaluated by J-PAL affiliated researchers in partnership with the Haryana NHM. The partnership was introduced under J-PAL’s new “Innovation in Data, experiments, and Actions”
