UnBoxing & First Look
So, when we come to the Box of the Device it has the ASUS Branding on the top and a Zing as well which flatters the Huge camera on the back of the smartphone and nothing else.
When we open up the box firstly you Receive the Device itself and when we take it ion our hand the first impression which comes in the mind is “Quite Bulky” just because of its huge camera sensor which they are offering. The back feel like a leather but it is not actually leather, it just pretend us to be leather.
The box also comes with a leather strap which is really required with this device while taking picture using camera shutter button.
Next it comes with a Asus Branding earphones which most of the devices these days wont offer you.
A Quick charger at 5 Volt 2amp Charging speed and with a Normal Micro USB Cable. and some Paper work like manuals, warranty card etc.
Built Quality and Design
From the front, the ZenFone Zoom looks similar like ZenFone 2 and the ZenFone 2 Laser . It has standard front design with capacitive buttons which wont light up. Just turn it over, and it’s a completely different story which you will see.
The back of the ZenFone Zoom looks more like a pocket camera or we can say a Point & shoot camera. It has familiar brushed leather texture you find on many DSLR cameras, and you can just by seeing it can tell that this is no ordinary camera phone. ASUS Zenfone Zoom is worlds first ever smartphone to come with 3x Optical Zoom which is build by 10-element lenses by HOYA.
Zenfone Zoom has improved Pixel Master 2.0 and Laser Auto Focus technology that allows you to give splendid image clarity.
At the Right, there are volume keys which can be used to zoom in-out,power on-off buttons as well as has buttons for capture picture and record videos.
The Device comes with the Thickness off 11.95 mm which is not much when we compare it with such camera, where as company claims that, this device is thinnest in all its range as it is the only one who offers 3X Optical zoom.
At the bottom,there is a micro usb fast charging port which boosts the phone charging speed.
The device weight comes to around 201 grams but the company claims it is about 185 grams don’t know why.
When we come to the Display of the device it comes with 5.5″ Full HD IPS LCD display with Gorilla glass 4 mounted on top of it for it safety and scratch resistance.
The Pixel Density it offers is 403, which is great. The viewing angles and sharpness is decent too. When we use it in daylight we need to increase brightness a little bit to get the exact visibility in it.
When we come on to the software, ASUS offers ZEN UI over Android 5.0 lollipop, which is a smooth UI with no lag obviously as the device comes with 4GB RAM out of which we get about 2 GB Ram.
You get N Number of softwares which are pre installed on the device, and need to be uninstalled most of them as they never come in use.
The best app i found is ZenScale in which you can measure a distance upto 50mm, this all can be possible just by using the Laser focus which is there on the back of the device.
Overall the UI is Smooth like a butter.
Now finally the camera of the device, which is the Main focus on it. It comes with 13MP rear and 5MP front camera. It comes with Laser Focus technology that focuses really very fast. Improved camera sensor gives you best low light image.It has dual Led Flash.
It has a 10 element HOYA lens to give you the crisp detail. Improved OIS gives a lot of room to click best picture at 3x optical Zoom. The Optical Image Stabilizer allows you to give perfect picture even at motion. They have also improved the ISO to 3200, which is quite higher as compared to any other camera smartphones and can also be adjusted while in the manual mode of recording videos which we can on,y find in DSLR. not in any default camer app.
