In a very surprising turn of event, the Government of India bans 59 application that had some sort of Chinese investment or ownership in one way or another. The rising border tension between Indian and China have made the Government take strict action.
The government announced this ban via a press release stating,”The Ministry of Information Technology, invoking its power under section 69A of the Information Technology Act read with the relevant provisions of the Information Technology (Procedure and Safeguards for Blocking of Access of Information by Public) Rules 2009 and in view of the emergent nature of threats has decided to block 59 apps since in view of the information available they are engaged in activities which are prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of India, defence of India, the security of the state and public order,”

The press release also states that the steps have been taken in accordance with the rising concerns from the citizen regarding their digital security and risk to privacy related to operation of certain apps.
