Apple Watch Series 9, Apple Watch Ultra 2 Launched With Double Tap Gesture

On Tuesday (September 12), during the company’s ‘Wonderlust’ event, Apple introduced the Apple Watch Series 9 and the Apple Watch Ultra 2. The newest Apple Watch Series 9 is the eleventh model in the company’s line of smartwatches. The new watches are almost indistinguishable from Apple’s latest Series 8 version. But it does have updated hardware that should result in better performance. The Apple S9 SiP (system in package) is a crucial component of Apple’s latest wearables. Series 9 Apple Watches come in 41mm and 45mm sizes, while the 49mm Apple Watch Ultra is also available. They also work with the latest WatchOS 10 update.

Apple Watch Series 9 Features and Specs

The Series 9 Apple Watch is offered in two different casing sizes: 41mm and 45mm. They share the same always-on Retina display with up to 2,000 nits of peak brightness as the prior Watch Series 7 and Watch Series 8 models. On a single charge, it can supposedly last for up to 18 hours.

The Apple S9 SiP (system in package) is a second-generation Ultra Wideband (UWB) semiconductor that provides the smartwatch with its processing capability. According to Apple, the new processor makes the Apple Watch Series 9 60 percent quicker than the Apple Watch Series 8. With this new wearable, customers may query Siri for their health information.

The “Double Tap” gesture allows users to do a variety of actions by tapping their thumb and index finger together, such as answering or ending a call, stopping a timer or snoozer alarm, controlling music, opening the camera, and more. In addition to opening the Smart Stack from the watch face, the Double Tap functionality will also enable users to browse among widgets in the stack, all powered by the Digital Crown and Taptic Engine. Additionally, the wearable may ping the user’s iPhone. It’s also compatible with Apple’s HomePod.

Powered by watchOS 10, the Apple Watch Series 9 introduces reimagined applications, a revamped Smart Stack, new watch faces, enhanced cycling and hiking capabilities, and mental health tracking and management functions. And its four-core Neural Engine can handle machine learning tasks much more quickly than in the prior Watch Series 8 models. It also improves dictation accuracy compared to the Apple Watch Series 8 by as much as 25%.

Apple says this new model is their first carbon-neutral offering.

Apple Watch Ultra 2 Features and Specs

An enhanced Retina display with up to 3,000 nits of peak brightness is housed in a 49mm casing on the Apple Watch Ultra 2. The newest Apple Watch Ultra 2 uses the same bespoke S9 SiP as the Apple Watch Series 9 and comes with carbon-neutral alternatives. The flagship wristwatch has cutting-edge capabilities such as Siri processing on-device and enhanced location monitoring.

The new premium tough watch is powered by watchOS 10 and has a new gesture known as Double Tap. This feature allows users to use the Apple Watch Ultra 2 with a single hand and without touching the screen. Modular Ultra, its new watch face, shows time as it is right now along with other relevant information such as altitude or depth. It provides a wide height range, from 500 meters below sea level to 9,000 meters above sea level, for mountaineers and hikers. The wearable device provides a diving depth of 40 meters for swimmers and scuba divers.

According to Apple, the Apple Watch Ultra 2 has a maximum battery life of 72 hours while in Low Power Mode, or up to 36 hours when in regular usage.
