Litterati is a community that is “crowdsource – cleaning” the planet. Jeff Kirschner founded literati after a comment made by his toddler daughter. Litter is everywhere, soda cans, plastic bags and cigarette butts litter the environment, choke wildlife and threaten our planet. It is tackling this problem one piece of litter at a time. It started with one person and now literati is a global community that is cleaning the planet. The litterati community is growing quickly. It is using geo-data to clean up the planet.
How does it work?
Litterati is an online resource that allows users to photograph litter with Instagram and share their findings with friends using the hashtag “#Litterati.” They are then encouraged to discard the litter properly. Geotags provide insight into problem areas while keywords identify the most commonly found brands and products. This data will be used to work with companies and organizations to find more sustainable solutions.

Verdict
The site will help to connect those interested in getting rid of litter. It shows interest in both environmental and commercial concerns. Over the past months, some 21,000 photos posted by 1500 people from 40 countries have found their way to litterati’s digital landfill. The site will help make people more aware of the problem.
