Top 6 Threats Every Blogger Should Be Prepared for in 2017

Dear blogger. That’s the problem with progress. It consistently brings new unforeseen problems with it. That means that doing the same thing as you used to often simply won’t be enough. You’ve got to do things differently if you don’t want your blog to fall victim to malicious actions.

So what’s new in 2017? And what threats for bloggers are still out there that a lot of people have ignored? Well, I’m glad you asked. (It’s so helpful to have an active audience).

Expect more hacks of big platforms to come to light

The problem with hacks is that it’s not in the favor of big companies to reveal them as that damages their reputation. And so, expect that more networks have been compromised than you’re aware of. What does that mean?

Well, it means that what you thought was secure probably isn’t. So be very careful what information you share with big networks.

What it also means is that if you haven’t yet updated your passwords you should stop reading this article right now and go right out there and do that!

A lack of password Hygiene will continue

And when you’re changing the passwords, don’t – for the love of god – use the same ones across different platforms! Because if you do that, then when they manage to hack one of your websites, that means they’ll be able to hack a bunch of them. And that will just add insult to injury.

The best thing a blogger can do?

Use a password manager. This will allow you to have different and strong passwords for every site, without you having to remember each and every one. In fact, you only have to remember one. In that way, it will be both easy and secure.

The best of both worlds.

Social Engineering will grow in sophistication

Do you know what the weakest link in your computer security is? It’s you. Not all of you, of course. Some of you are certainly up to speed and hard to trick. Some of you, however, are surprisingly easy to trick.

And why should hackers target difficult computer systems when they can get you to give them the keys to the castle?

So, whatever you do, become more skeptical, more careful and less willing to give out information. The bigger the network or blog that you’re working for, the more likely there will be an attempt to get your information.

Note, that that doesn’t even have to only be online. It’s possible they’ll approach you AFK as well. People have been known to pose as experts, computer officials or even to go through your garbage to get key information.

Your unused apps on your website will continue to be a security risk

A lot of people, when they first start building their site, install a whole bunch of apps and plugins. Then they settle on those they like best and forget about the rest. That’s great, as long as they remember to uninstall them.

The problem is, many of them don’t. Even worse, they forget to update them as well (after all, they’re not using them, so why should they?). And that leaves massive gaping hole in their internet security.

So, don’t do that. Uninstall those plugins that you don’t use and keep those that you do, up to date!

The competition will intensify

Everybody and your uncle Jimmy are online now. Many of them have started blogs. Yet others are on Pinterest, Instagram or some other network that’s competing for attention. That means that it’s going to get even harder for you to attract your audience.

To stay relevant in this ever more competitive atmosphere you need to do two things:

First of all, you need to use the right tools to make your quality as high-class as possible

  1. grammarly: Get rid of grammar mistakes with Grammarly (Which is free in its most basic version).
  2. hemingwayapp: Work at making your content more readable by using shorter, more accessible language and cutting out on passive voice with Hemingway. It is free too while you’re willing to use it online.
  3. mastergrades.com: Upgrade the quality of your words by using this editing service and take your blog’s content to the next level.
  4. hootsuite: Make your social media easier to use and more impactful by using this software package. You won’t even have to pay to integrate the first three platforms.

Secondly, you’ve got to make sure you know who your target audience is and stick to them. That means, finding your niche and giving them what they want. This is the only way you’ll be able to compete with the big boys, who will have more expertise and far more resources to throw at their market segments.

People will avoid text-only blogs even more

Millennials prefer video. And, with each passing year, they’re a bigger slice of the pie. That means, video is becoming ever more important. So stop it with your text only already! It’s a shrinking market!

Besides, video is getting easier to do. You can shoot them with your phone, edit them with online editors and add animations at the drop of the hat.

As an extra bonus, when you’ve got content that people loved in text form, if you transfer it to video your audience will get to love it again (as well an entirely new slice of the pie).

So make the transition. There really is no reason to drag your feet on this one.

Blogger, get prepared

Yeah, there are a lot of problems out there. That’s what comes of everybody being connected.

Now, you can lament to the gods and pray that nothing will happen. Or you can do something about it and be as prepared as you can be. Will that guarantee you’ll be secure and stay relevant? No, it won’t. But it will at least give you the best chance of mattering next year.

And at least there’s one advantage to all the threats for a blogger out there – they’re even more likely to take out the competition! So hey, at least you’ve got that to look forward to.

Innovative Examples of IoT in the Indian Retail Industry

0

The Internet of Things technology implementation has seen the highest proliferation in the past few years. With businesses around the globe trying to capitalize the scalability of technology in their respective operations, the investment on IoT solutions is poised for growth. Among all the sectors, the retail industry has been the front-runner in adapting to the IoT technologies. According to a report by Jupiter Research, retailers across the world are going to spend an estimated $2.5bn on IoT by 2020. This certainly paves the way for a lot of futuristic IoT technology in the retail industry.

Let us check out some of the innovative examples of IoT that has already been implemented in the retail sector:

Radio-Frequency Identification(RFID)

RFID tagging is an ID system that uses small radio frequency identification devices which can be placed on individual products for identification and tracking purposes. The biggest advantage of using RFID for the retailers is that they can now track the inventory and products on the shelf in the real-time without any manual intervention. Also, this has minimized the product losses or thefts as retailers can now track which product left when and through which channel. RFID also enables simultaneous scanning of all the goods in the customer’s shopping cart as compared to the individual scanning in case of the bar-code stickers.

Digital Signage

Cloud controlled content dissemination through the digital signages have empowered the retailers to upload content for display simultaneously at multiple locations with a single click. Imagine a retailer wanting to promote an exclusive offer to customers at 100 stores at a specific peak time? With the help of digital signages, retailers can perform this action and also track the engagement of the customers syncing it with other IoT sensors. Apart from promotions, retailers can drive engaging content to the customers trying to increase their affinity towards their brand.

Personalized Experience

IoT can merge the personalization of online shopping portals with the physical feeling of the product. With relevant tagging, customers can get messages of  ‘Item frequently bought together’, ‘Similar Products’ or ‘Same product in different colors’. With WiFi and IoT Software, retailers can track the movement of the customers and try to bundle promotions specific to the customers.

While established companies like Accenture have started IoT consulting and technology implementation solutions specific for the retail sector. Some notable IoT Startups in India too have catered to the above purposes of optimizing operations, increasing the engagements and ultimately revenue of the retail sector and brands. EasyReach with its offices in Mumbai, Pune, and Bangalore have implemented innovative IoT solutions for the retail industry in India.

Top 5 Reasons Android is Better Than iPhone

0

This is long debated question among smartphone users. There is a loyal customer base for both the devices instead of that common user look confused all the time with this question. In this article, we can discuss the reasons why Android should be your first choice than iPhone when you are planning to buy a new smartphone device.

More choices Available with Android:

One of the biggest benefits of choosing Android as your smartphone device is that you can select one from the range of options available. There are dozens of companies which are manufacturing devices based on Android platform. This way you get plenty of options to buy Android device according to your taste and requirements. You can select Android as your choice for the range of options like huge touchscreen, an edge screen, rotating camera, better storage capacity devices etc. You can even fulfill niche demands like dual SIM, physical keyboard, microSD card, removable battery etc. With iPhone, you can’t imagine so much as it comes with specified features and specifications. iPhone offers limited options when you plan to buy smartphone device based on different features like camera, internal hardware, screen etc.

Customization:

Android is considered to be the dream of developers as they are allowed to do customization at any level with these devices. Where Apple prefers to keep things simple and homogenous with default apps and hardware experience Android offers a lot of customization options to keep your device the way you want it to be. It allows you to pick your own level of customization which extends from simple things like customized keyboard, live wallpapers etc. to more advanced features like custom ROM, whole new software experience etc. This open source platform allows users to make changes of their choice anytime effortlessly.

Widgets & Multitasking:

Widgets make your life simple. They are fondly available on your device to make your basic tasks easy. Where Apple allows widgets limited and lives only on notification area in recent devices Android is a champion in the field. It allows you to bring widgets to the home screen for easy tasks and to save your time. Android allows you to set widgets for any of your task to say it for alarms, custom clock, direct calls to contacts in your phone, weather, email, flashlight, messages or anything else. Apart from widgets, Android is offering better multitasking options for long which allow you perform various tasks at a time. Apple iPhone stands nowhere when it comes to multitasking function.

Expandable memory and removable battery:

With Android devices, you can remove or change your device battery anytime you want. Apple iPhone doesn’t allow this feature as it offers non-removable battery devices which come with many limitations. Apart from removable battery option Android also offers expandable memory feature. You can insert microSD card to your device to expand its memory instantly. These SD cards come cheap thus you can expand your device memory easily at a convenient price. iPhone doesn’t support expandable memory feature thus you always feel like running short of device memory.

Cost effective:

Android devices are available for every user for the different price tag. Whereas iPhone comes costlier to cater users of a specific segment. You can find same feature smartphone on Android platform at much lesser price than its competitor from Apple. In fact, we can say smartphones easy availability has become possible only because of Android platform.

Knowing the fact that smartphones on the Android platform are available with more features at a lesser price, it is an obvious choice for users. Though iPhone has its own following than if you are neutral to your choices, Android is definitely a better pick as a smartphone.
