Based in Austin, the “bots_alive” is headed by Dr Bradley Knox who has researched artificial intelligence and human-robot interaction at the MIT media lab and UT Austin. bots_alive is being supported by a National Science Foundation SBIR Grant. Its aim is to create robots which resemble an animal and it does so by using a Hexbug Spider and its bots_alive kit.
How does it work?
The motive is to make the bots appear alive than any other machine. The creatures are controlled by using a unique character Artificial Intelligence. The world as the robot would see would be shown in your smartphone i.e. the augmented reality. The phone’s camera will perceive the bots and the nearby vision blocks. bots_alive converts the Hexbug spiders into smart, lively and independent creatures.
