‘PUBG Addict’ Allegedly Kills Father for Not Letting Him Recharge to Play Games

Addiction towards anything has a tragic end. A 21-year-old youth was arrested for brutally killing his father for refusing money to recharge his mobile phone to play the addictive PUBG Mobile game. PUBG Mobile is a popular mobile battle royal game, developed by Tencent Games. PUBG stands for PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds This incident of murder took place at Belagavi, a town which is 500km north-west of the southern state’s capital Bengaluru.

Raghuveer attacked his 62-year-old father K. Shankarappa with a kitchen knife. He brutally killed his father by slitting his throat, chopping his hands and legs in a fit of rage at home just because his father refused to give him money to recharge his mobile phone for playing the game named PUBG, to which he was addicted. The victim, K. Shankarappa was a retired Assistant Reserved Sub Inspector and a resident of Katti suburb in the city’s outskirts and the accused, Raghuveer is an unemployed diploma holder in electrical engineering. For the crime committed by Raghuveer, police arrested him, under section 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for the alleged murder and a local court remanded him in 14-judicial custody for investigation.

Lokesh Kumar, police commissioner told IANS that as per the details registered at the time of FIR, the accused pushed his mother out of the room after he had the argument with his father. After that Raghuveer bolted the room and brutally assaulted Shankarappa with the long knife, used for de-husking coconuts. Shankarappa was rushed to the state-run hospital. At the hospital, the doctors on duty declared him brought dead. Kumar also added that police is still searching for the weapon used in the crime as it was not found in the house after the incident.
