Applications are now being accepted for the 2023 Progress Software Akanksha Scholarship for Women in STEM in India, announced today by the recognised supplier of application development and infrastructure software. Until July 7 at 5:00 pm IST, we will accept finished entries here.
According to Prasanna Anireddy, VP of Engineering at Progress, “while there are more women in technology leadership today compared to a decade ago, most women still see a barrier to choosing STEM Fields as a career and need support and encouragement.” We want to demonstrate to them via this yearly scholarship that they have a place in the IT industry and that the industry appreciates and encourages diversity in talent. We have hope because every year we see more and more ambitious young women who want to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and math.
The Akanksha Scholarship is a renewable award of up to INR 1,50,000 (about $2,000) every year for four years, to be used towards college costs. Women (or those who identify as women) from India who are enrolled in a bachelor’s programme in computer science, CIS, SE, or IT are eligible to apply. To be considered, candidates need to demonstrate not just academic achievement, but also bravery, conscientiousness, resilience, and overall excellence.
As part of its CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) programme, Progress for Tomorrow, the company grants three separate Women in STEM Scholarships to deserving female students in the United States, Bulgaria, and India. By launching this programme, Progress hopes to encourage more women throughout the world to pursue careers in computer science, software engineering, information technology, and computer information systems.
The “people-centric” business model of Progress is aimed at making all employees feel valued and appreciated. The core of the company’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) efforts revolve on this outlook, and they focus on issues like diversity and human rights, social justice, STEM education, disaster assistance, and environmental sustainability.
