The Apple BKC shop is the company’s first flagship location in the country of India. The store is located in a prime location on Jio World Drive, a new shopping district in the Bandra Kurla Complex.
Head of Studio at Foster + Partners, Stefan Behling, said, “We are excited to cooperate with Apple on their first flagship store in India. The innovative energy of Mumbai may be seen in Apple BKC. Finely made components, locally sourced materials, and abundant flora are all included in the design with the intention of “stimulating the senses and lifting the spirit.”
The borders between the interior of the shop and the outdoors are blurred by the vegetation that pours in from the street. The 8-meter-high glass facade furthers this fluid flow between the spacious double-height interior and the surrounding landscape. Inside the windows, a line of ficus trees draws attention to the shop’s proximity to the environment.
Apple’s amazing wares line the bottom floor’s showcase tables and avenues. There is a giant video wall in the Forum, which serves as a classroom and event area and is where ‘Today at Apple’ is broadcast. Surrounded by a colonnade, the acoustically transparent white fabric of the focal wall captures the attention of those who enter.
Connecting the ground floor with the cantilevered mezzanine is a dramatic stairway constructed of stainless steel and two 14-meter-long glass balustrades. From the top floor, sightseers may take in a breathtaking panorama of the public plaza and its manicured surroundings below.
The shop is a perfect synthesis of local craftsmanship and Apple’s signature aesthetic. A hand-crafted wood ceiling that extends beyond the glass façade to the bottom of the outer canopy emphasises the seamless transition between the inside and outdoors.
