India Sees Dramatic Rise in Cyber-Attacks Post-Kashmir Decision

As per the news by Russian cyber-security Kaspersky on Monday, soon after the abolition of Article 370 and 35A by Indian Government, India has come under the threat of cyber attacks and the country needs to be more careful with respect to the security of websites and critical infrastructure.

Some of the websites are already hacked! On Sunday, the official website of the Bihar Education Department was hacked by Turkish hacker and he posted a message praising Pakistan and Islam. The message was – “We Love Pakistan”. Somehow the hacked portal was restored but chances are that such cyber-attacks can occur again and on large scale. Mr. Saurabh Sharma, the Senior Security Researcher, Global Research and Analysis Team (GReAT) APAC, Kaspersky, told IANS that INDIA is ranked 7th under the title of most cyber- the attacked country in the world. He also informed that for now, it is difficult to understand whether attacks are state-sponsored attacks or not.

As per the data are given to the Parliament by the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In), over 24 websites of central ministries, departments, and state governments were hacked till May. To this, the IT Minister, Mr. Ravi Shankar Prasad said in a written reply in the Lok Sabha that cyber threat attempts have been made from to launch cyber-attacks on Indian cyberspace. He also added that these attacks were seen to be originating from countries like China and Pakistan.

As for now, our country is under the major threat of cyber-attacks and we need to be careful when it comes to the security of India’s website and critical infrastructure. The Kaspersky executive also said that India needs to be careful especially when there are cyber-attackers that are ready to exploit our vulnerabilities in the name of cyberwar between countries.
