Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 Launching on 26 July

Both the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 will debut worldwide on July 26 at Samsung’s second annual Galaxy Unpacked event. This is a first for Samsung, who will be holding the event in Seoul. The Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 and the Galaxy Watch 6 series are also likely to make their debuts during the event, joining the foldable smartphones from the South Korean tech giant. Multiple sources, including sketched designs, have shown what the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 will look like. Here is a summary of the information we have gathered so far regarding the phones.

Samsung, arguably a veteran in the foldable smartphone segment, is releasing two of the most anticipated releases of the year: the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5. This year has already seen the launch of many foldable smartphones, including the Tecno Phantom V Fold, the Motorola Razr 40, and the Razr 40 Ultra. The phones are slated to go on sale in India on August 14 after their unveiling on July 26 with preorders beginning the following day.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 Specs

The primary screen on the Galaxy Z Fold 5 is predicted to be 7.6 inches and have a resolution of full HD (1,812, 2,176 pixels), while the cover screen will measure in at 6.2 inches. However, the Galaxy Z Flip 5 is expected to include a 6.7-inch core screen and a 3.4-inch outside display, both of which will be Dynamic AMOLED. Users of the Galaxy Z Flip 5 may expect to utilise Google Messages, YouTube, and Google Maps on the bigger cover display when the phone is folded.

Images of the unfolded Galaxy Z Fold 5 reveal it will have a big chin at the bottom and narrow bezels on the sides. On the rear, there are three cameras housed in a somewhat protruding camera module, together with a separate LED flash unit. A speaker grille, three microphones, and a nearly gapless folding design can also be seen in the photographs.

However, the much-anticipated waterdrop hinge seemed to be absent from the clamshell foldable device in the recently released hands-on video and photographs of the dummy units of the Galaxy Z Flip 5. On the right side of the phone is where you’ll find the volume rocker and power button with integrated fingerprint sensor, while the SIM card tray slot is on the left. A USB Type-C charging connector seems to be located on the bottom edge.

There have been rumours that the octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC would power both the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5. There may be as much as 12GB of RAM on the Galaxy Z Fold 5, and as much as 8GB on the Galaxy Z Flip 5. The phones will reportedly come with 256GB and 512GB of storage upon release. It has also been speculated that these phones would ship with One UI 5.1.1, which is based on Android 13.

A 50-megapixel main sensor, a 12-megapixel ultra-wide lens sensor, and a 12-megapixel telephoto lens sensor are all possible configurations for the Galaxy Z Fold 5’s triple rear camera system. The core inner screen is said to include an under-display 4-megapixel sensor for selfies and video chats, while the cover display is expected to house a 10-megapixel camera.

The Galaxy Z Flip 5 is said to include a main camera with 12 megapixels and a secondary camera with 12 megapixels and an ultra-wide lens. It’s expected that the front-facing camera would include a 10-megapixel sensor.

The rumoured weight and battery capacity of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 is 4,400mAh and 253 grammes, respectively; the rumoured battery capacity of the future Samsung clamshell Galaxy Z Flip 5 is 3,700mAh. The phones should also include a USB Type-C 3.2 connector, near-field communication (NFC) capability, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2, and more.

A second leak said that the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 would continue to be IPX8-rated for splash resistance like the current Galaxy Z Flip 4 and Galaxy Z Fold 4, which contradicts the original report that the foldables will have an IP58 certification for dust and water protection.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 Expected Price

The rumoured pricing for the Galaxy Z Fold 5 ranges from EUR 1,899 (about Rs. 1,72,400) for the basic 256GB model to EUR 2,039 (approximately Rs. 1,85,100) for the 1TB model. Black, blue, and cream are all likely colour possibilities for the foldable smartphone’s book form factor.

The Galaxy Z Flip 5 is said to be available in Cream, Graphite, Lavender, and Water Green colour options, with the 256GB model costing EUR 1,199 (about Rs. 1,08,900) and the 512GB model costing EUR 1,339 (approximately Rs. 1,21,600).
