Asus Zenfone 5z Design & Built

I have been using the Asus Zenfone 5z for past couple of days now and trust me the 6.2″ FHD+ screen with a 91% Screen-to-body ratio give me great experience. We get a 19:9 which is again new from 18:9 device still it offers a better and bigger display from any other device in the market. Turning the device around we get the curvy feel with glass and aluminum finish all over. Even with full front back glass and aluminum, body device is very lightweight which make your palm feel quite comfortable while using the device n regular basis. Adding the glass makes the device a bit slippery, which make me suggest to use some case or skin on it.

We get a glass built, with Snapdragon processor and great selfie camera and best part AI all over which I will explain later. The device is priced at  Rs. 29,999 for 64GB Variant for 128GB you need to pay Rs. 32,999 whereas for the 256GB version you need to pay extra for Rs. 36,999. The device fits perfectly in your hand even after having such large display. The price seems to be at the best. This hardware with high-end premium feel, price justify the device totally.

Starting with the design part; at the front top, we get a most defined thing from iPhone X which is a notch and all display. The notch contains a large 8-megapixel selfie Camera setup. Beside it, we get different sensors, earpiece, Multi-Color LED Notification and nothing much which need to add up over here as rest everything is a display only.

Coming to the lower side we get a 6.2-inch FHD+ Display which is covered with 2.5D curved glass and gorilla glass 3 in front as well as back. The curve glass gently melds in along with the curved sides, thus making it a joy to hold in the hands without any fatigue. You will just be going to love the display. Overall this IPS LCD panel you gonna loves it.

Coming little bit down we get on screen back keys which we can swipe according to our usage. I want the brand to add the gesture features just like what we get in Vivo V9 and Vivo X21. I am just addicted too that gestures and that feature also adds up extra display to use.

Turning the phone to the downside here we get a primary MIC and a USB port Type C 2.0 port which supports OTG and Quick Charge 3.0. Beside it, we also get a speaker grill which product very good sound output as it is a 5 magnet speaker and not a normal one. We also get a 3.5mm audio jack which works well and has really good sound output because of dedicated Audio Wizard which Asus Is offering in their software.

Coming to the left side of the phone here we get one noise cancellation MIC and a Hybrid Sim tray slot which support Dual VoLTE if you want to use it.

Turning the phone to the upside we only get antenna lines and another noise cancellation MIC, which makes it total 3 Noise cancellation MIC in it.

Coming to the right side of the phone we Volume rockers and power lock key which works quite well on regular usage. They are also made up of metal with glass finish on them.

Finally coming to the back side of the phone here we get a 12+8-megapixel camera with a support of Dual LED flash. Below that we get Asus branding and Fingerprint sensor which works quite fast just like what we see in Oneplus and Vivo Devices. The back panel is made up of proper glass and has that circular finish which we see on every Asus products.

Asus Zenfone 5z Display

Display of Asus Zenfone 5z attracts you in a single shot. Asus Zenfone 5z comes with a 6.2-inch FHD+ Display with a resolution of 1080 X 2280. The display gives you the ratio of 19:9 which will be quite odd for few hours of usage after that you will be habitual as well as you can increase the ratio of the application by going into the setting panel. The colors on the display are sharp and playing games look great. The display looks dark and increases the experience of watching movies to another level. The Sunlight legibility is also good because of 500 nits brightness. Overall no complaints about the display.

Asus Zenfone 5z Performance

The phone comes with Snapdragon 845 processor which features a 6/8 GB Ram and a 12-megapixel camera. This combo makes it a perfect device. Out of 64 GB of internal storage you get about 54 GB free, even after that, you can expand it to up-to 256GB because of the phone support Hybrid Slot.

We get Antutu Score of 268103 and certain other scores are also good. I don’t think so with thing top notch hardware anyone will be facing any issue. They have also given all the sensors which are required by any normal person. We can also use VR with this device as it supports gyroscope sensor. Even while using GPS it will give you proper accuracy as it also has a magnetic and orientation sensor.

Coming to the gaming part, we can play almost all games. In my use, I have not seen any lag or frame drops even in Asphalt 8 high setting. Every game even in the high-end setting is working well. I have tried playing most of the games like Asphalt 8, Shadow Fight 3, Batman, Bully at Adreno 630 GPU and Kryo 385. The support of Snapdragon 845 processor works well. Pubg on HDR and High setting working fine on it with no lag and issue. I have also not seen any heating issue while long gaming in DELHI, INDIA Temperature.

Asus Zenfone 5z Camera

Asus Zenfone 5z features dual camera sensors (12MP+8MP) on the rear end. The dual camera makes use of the AI technology which detects different scenes automatically and adjusts the setting to get the best output out of it. ake my words it really works well. I just love how it detects and take some great shots out of it.

Asus Zenfone 5z can record Videos in Manual Mode which no Other brand offers.

It produces images with good natural looking colors even in indoor and low lighting. When it comes to the camera and picture’s quality, we are amazed at the quality images it captures. It can even capture images in a Raw format which is kind of amazing. Previously Asus was the first to bring Depth mode in their camera application which is now famous as bokeh mode in other phones these days. They were actually not marketing them well in Market.

In low light photography, I would say it took good shots and you can use the manual camera to change the shutter speed aperture and other stuff to get the best out of it. Rest, I have already posted some camera shots downside.

Coming to the front part here we get a large 8-megapixel sensor for selfies with a front display flash and no front flash as it comes with a top screen notch in it. I would say taking selfies in good light as well as no light will come out really good.

Rest, we have already attached all the camera samples which will help you to analyze the quality of the device.

Asus Zenfone 5z Software

Out of the box, Asus Zenfone 5z comes up with Android 8.0 Oreo with the skin of ZenUI 5 running on top of it. This OS seems to be inspired by Stock Android but has added many features which are kind of mandatory these days. You can also change different themes by downloading it from their theme application. Rest you will get no bloatware in the software UI. Everything you get is clean and works perfectly with the beast of hardware and best pricing. They have worked a lot on their ZenUI after ZenUI 3 in there previous devices. Best thing is the Pixel Master camera which they offer. While using the device in day to day heavy intense usage you won’t feel any issue.

Asus Zenfone 5z AI Explained

ASUS has inbuilt an AI Boost core into the processor, obviously for better AI related work. Now, this processor has a neural processing engine that helps while performing tasks, that needs AI learning.

ASUS has integration of AI into their camera could not be ignored. It can detect scenes and can create real-time auto adjustments to the camera settings, all thanks to its AI Scene detection, AI photo learning, Real-time beautification etc.

Another feature is AI ringtone which is just a complimentary feature but it’s awesome. The AI actually sets the ringtone volume according to the surrounding you’re in, which means if you’re in a quiet place it will play slowly and if you’re into a much-crowed place it will just blast it out. Nice huh!

The smartphone is also powered by an Intelligent charging system, ASUS is calling this feature Smart charging. The battery feature a smart management system, basically it during the day the phone activates smart charging while in the night it slows it down to preserve battery life.

Asus Zenfone 5z ZenMoji

ZenMoji, which is another feature added by Asus in their latest flagship. It is an AR Emoji just like what we see in Samsung, Honor, and iPhone. This feature is still in beta phase and needs quite improvements. Still, it works with your eye contact. It blinks eyes when you do. you can even record video and use it in different ways. ZenMoji can be used in video and text chats and live-streaming, or you can add voice recordings to them via the microphone.

Asus Zenfone 5z Battery

Asus Zenfone 5z comes up with 3,300mAh battery. Overall it took ab

out 1 Hour 10 minutes to charge from 0 to 100% from their default charger which is a quick charge supported charger. Even with my heavy usage with containing whole day Wifi Hotspot+dual Sim+ Whole day calling and messaging and browsing. Until the end of the day, I left with 30% of battery because of the best software and battery optimization we get with snapdragon 845 and ZenUI 5.

For selfie, notch and show off lovers, it is going to be a great device. Overall in daily usage, you won’t find any issue. Under display, the fingerprint is just another love.

  • Great Selfie Camera
  • Software Optimisation
  • Great audio quality
  • Fast fingerprint sensor
  • Fast face unlock (Can be improved in Future Update)
  • Very Lightweight and Handy
  • Glass and metal body
  • Great Pricing

  • The battery can be increased a bit
