Amazon Fire TV Stick Vs Google Chromecast 2: Which one do you want on Your TV ?

The whole idea of television has witnessed a radical change with video streaming services like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video doing the rounds. The sheer concept of how and what people watch on their TV sets at home has also been somewhat reinvented.

The journey of online content right up to the television sets now seems like a cakewalk – courtesy, the SMART TV’s and more recently, streaming sticks such as Google Chromecast itself. Only recently, Amazon joined the club with the launch of the Fire TV Stick in India at INR 3,999.

With the availability of options, people are starting to wonder which is a better fit between the Google Chromecast 2 and the Amazon Fire Stick. Well, we are here to find out.

What can you watch?

Amazon-Fire-TV-stick-India-techniblogicWell, for starters the Amazon Prime Video Stick brings you content from almost every video streaming source possible including its anti-fellow, Netflix. Which, to be fair is pretty amazing. You also get access to others in the likes of Amazon Prime Video, Gaana, YouTube, Eros Now and Hotstar.

Amazon Fire TV StickThe Google Chromecast also allows you to consume content from Netflix, YouTube, Hotstar, Eros Now, Gaana and more, sure but the Chromecast is a tad bit more advanced in the sense that it lets you mirror your mobile (Android), laptop or desktop’s screen onto the television, thus making it better suited for you to watch almost everything up on the big screen. Locally stored content can also be viewed on the TV.

The Amazon Fire TV Stick brings you a voice remote intending of course that you can speak out the name of what you desire to watch and it will go ahead and play it for you.
It is a bit of a bummer that the Amazon Prime Video app does not support casting via Chromecast. You could play content from Prime on your phone or system and cast the whole screen on your TV but the outcome is most likely to be stumpy and not nearly as flawless as compared to what a Chromecast supported application can give you, still with a small software update it can be fixed as it is in initial phase as of now.

The hardware within?

Amazon Fire TV StickThe Amazon Fire TV Stick gives you 8GB internal storage with dual-antenna Wi-Fi, dual-band, Bluetooth 4.1 and is powered by a MediaTek Quad-core ARM 1.3GHz processor tied with 1GB of RAM and the Mali 450 MP4 GPU.

The Stick results videos in both 720p and 1080p resolutions up to 60 frames per second. It also supports Dolby Audio, 5.1 surround sound, 2 channel stereo and HDMI audio-pass through up to 7.1.

Whereas, the Google Chromecast 2 comes bearing a 1.2GHz dual core ARM Cortex-A7 processor, 512MB of RAM, 256MB of internal storage and 802.11ac WiFi with support for both 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands. It results videos at 1080p and includes 2 channel stereo-support, Dolby Audio and 5.1 surround sound.

Amazon Fire TV StickNow, given the records, the Fire Stick hardware sure does appear more tempting but one should note that the Chromecast is a different sort of device that does not claim a massive amount of internal storage and RAM as no applications are stored here internally.

How does one consume content?

As mentioned earlier, the Amazon Fire TV stick has the voice remote – enabling you to voice command the content you plan to watch.

The Google Chromecast 2, however, makes your smartphone, your remote. All that needs to be done from your end is play a video on whatever Chromecast supported the application you got on your phone, press hit the cast button on the top right corner, and that’s all.
You can mirror stuff on the big screen with the Chromecast 2.

Both have significant pros and cons – for instance, the Chromecast 2 will let you search conveniently what you want to watch through the on-screen keypad, but you also need to unlock the screen each time you have to pause or play the video.

It is difficult to beat the ease of actual physical buttons when it comes to pausing/playing contents or going back and forth in a video frame. You can search content through the voice command, but it still gets iffy using the remote to type in. But hey, you can also pair a Bluetooth keyboard with the Fire TV. That should make it easy.

What stands the price?

There’s not much disparity between both items when it comes to the pricing. For existing Prime customers, it gives an INR 499 cashback via Amazon Pay on the standard price of INR 3,999.
The Google Chromecast can be found on Flipkart at INR 3,399.

Which one should you pick?

Both have highs and lows and truth be told, both are fulfilling standard expectations. For folks who are not as technologically sound and prefer the vibe of a good old-fashioned remote, the answer would be the Amazon Prime TV Stick. Also suitable for those who find themselves deeply invested in the whole Prime Video ecosystem.

Having said that, the Google Chromecast 2 will give you more flexibility regarding what you want up on the big TV screen. Alongside the video streaming applications, you also get to view locally stored content on your phone with the Chromecast 2. Plus, you get to mirror stuff off your phone, laptop or desktop directly on to the TV set.

That’s all between the two for now – hope this helps make up some minds!

Five Factors Smartphones Today Can’t Miss

Technology and trend are the two things that make most of each other and it is no mystery that the former constantly strives to innovate and beat the latest trend by creating a whole new one for the world to obsess over – thus, the cycle continues, products evolve and the thrill deepens.
Technology is primarily all about owning the latest trend at the best price. The consumer does not skip a beat there. And 2017 has begun to see this in practice as low range smartphones get better and well, smarter as we speak. The consumer has spoken and from what it seems, the manufacturers have been listening too. Consumer feedback is seeing reaction and manufacturers are striving to improve aspects that consumers truly care about. So if you have smartphone shopping in mind, make sure to look through the following trends that smartphones today should not be made without.

Fingerprint Sensor

Honor6x-Dual-Camera-Techniblogic

Even though fingerprint sensors have had their share of almost being accepted as the ‘go to’ button on our devices – they are getting better and handier. And they are here to stay at least for a while. Over the last year, a whole bunch of phones have been bought and used with the fingerprint sensor and the reception has been good if not very great. Yes, we still like to use the front mounted options more than the rear mounted ones but they are great for selfies. Another aspect, which is ‘the’ aspect in this context, is the speed at which the sensor functions. That is what makes all the difference.

64GB Storage or Dedicated MicroSD Card Slot

Honor-6x-Hybrid-Sim-Tray-Techniblogic

The hybrid SIM slot does not seem like the best idea ever and here’s why. Most affordable phones have the option of 32GB internal storage of which around 25GB is free at user end. Ideally, that should suffice but life is better with 64GB to spare. Now the microSD should be enough to solve all your storage issues but what happens when you need two SIM cards? Which I’m guessing you will, post the whole Reliance Jio offer.

VoLTE

Jio-dns-error

Voice over LTE support was not exactly cared for say, half a year ago. But now that you need it to avail free calling on Reliance Jio without completely slaughtering your data – it is indispensable. Thankfully, most current phones come with VoLTE enabled out of the box.

Dual Camera

Coolpad-Cool-1-Dual-Back-Panel-Techniblogic

The Camera is the most typical, widely used feature on our phones and yet somehow, in spite of all the rosy marketing claims, the budget Android phones are just not giving their best. The camera quality of the affordable smartphone is at a dire need of improvement. Dual camera implementation, where an extra shooter is used to gather should do the trick with enhanced quality on the budget devices. The emerging trend is doing rounds and finer dual camera phones at affordable rates are expected to launch this year.

Big Battery

asus-zenfone-3s-max-techniblogic-back-panel

Although big battery phones have not been any trouble so far, the new emerging crop of chipsets are proving to be a lot more power efficient. Besides, battery capacities of 3000mAH have become pretty standard pushing over the chunky, heavy phone housing a 5100mAH power unit.
Having said that, one should ideally, go for a phone with at least 4000mAH capacity battery. You don’t want to be scrambling for mid-day charging. Nobody does.

And there you have some of the essential features that you should rightfully expect of your brand new device this year. Not to mention, high resolution displays, Gyroscope for VR headset compatibility, Selfie flash, stereo speakers and USB Type-C port are just the kind of perks we enjoy on our smartphones. Hope you do too.

How to Play YouTube in Background with Screen Off

This is rather curious since YouTube’s natural instinct has always been to freeze videos as soon as the screen goes out. To do it anyway, you must follow the guide to Play YouTube in Background.

Even though YouTube is the king of video streaming, there does come a time when you don’t actually need to stare at the screen to grasp the content i.e. music and podcasts. Sadly, you cannot minimize the app without pausing the stuff within, and the use of third-party apps can and presumably will amount to a task. Now, what must one do to fix that?

Here are the steps to Play YouTube in Background

Well, folks, do not fret just yet for YouTube has come up with a tiny bug using Google’s Chrome browser that lets you leave videos running in the background.

Play-YouTube-in-Background-with-Screen-Off-techniblogic
First and foremost, make sure the notifications are turned on for Chrome under the general app settings which should be on by default, ideally. Once you have seen the little volume icon come across when playing the video, know that you are set. Take yourself to the mobile YouTube website and choose the video you want to listen to. Stay on Chrome without opening up the YouTube application.

Play-YouTube-in-Background-with-Screen-Off-techniblogic
Next thing that needs to be done is pausing the video, before switching to another tab or app. You can continue listening to the video in the background by hitting play on the grounded volume notification. You need to Request Desktop Site turn on for this feature as shown in the images. It is essentially simple but in case you need another guide through, just go by the video on top! You can also control the playback from the lock screen and switch in and out of apps without disrupting the flow of the video.

Play-YouTube-in-Background-with-Screen-Off-techniblogicHaving said that, we have received, a mixed response on the outcome of this trick over ten different smartphones. While the Nexus devices have had trouble with this system, others such as the OEM devices like the Oneplus 3, Asus Zenfone 3 and the Samsung galaxy C9 Pro have seen success. The Nexus 5 running Marshmallow and the N Preview are not big fans of this trick and this possibly has to do with the manner in which notifications are handled.

Even then, it is a quick and simple way to go and at least, worth a shot if not anything more substantial. Give it a go and it shouldn’t be that bad, we say!

Try the trick and let us know how it went in the comments below.

5 Important Features to Look for When Choosing a Developer

0

As with any industry, the mobile application development space has become incredibly competitive in the past two decades. Unlike in the past where only a few companies dominated the market, you’ll now find hundreds of app developers, some even working from home.

This can make things a little challenging when trying to choose the best developer for your apps. How do you separate the wheat from the chaff?

Thanks to our many years of experience, we’ve been able to narrow down five factors that should inform your decision to hire a developer;

  1. Their portfolio

This is always the first place to check. Look at the kind of apps the developer has worked on in the past to see whether the apps appeal to you. Do they look like what you want? Would you purchase any of them? Where possible, you should even ask the developer if you can “test drive” some of those apps. Only move to the next step if you’re impressed with the quality of work they do.

  1. Find out their specialty

Believe it or not, a single developer cannot be great in everything. Don’t even be misled by the ads and marketing hype. In mobile app development, developers choose what specialize in; you need to find a developer that specializes in the type of apps you’re looking to purchase. This is especially true when developing apps for a particular OS. Make sure that the developer specializes in apps for that operating system.

  1. Talk to past clients

From time to time, you may be able to hire a developer just by looking at the kind of work they’ve done in the past. But, in some cases, it helps to take an additional step and speak to those who’ve worked with the developer in the past. You want to know two things; whether the developer is trustworthy and the ease of doing business with them. If most past clients seem happy with the developer’s work, it might be worthwhile giving that developer a chance.

  1. Consider warranty

The best developers are those that offer some form of warranty. If the developer you’re considering doesn’t back their products with a warranty, you should look elsewhere. That’s because in case the app doesn’t work or breaks down a few weeks after deployment, you’ll have no one to turn to. Additionally, try to find companies with lengthy warranties that cover a broad scope of eventualities.

  1. Make sure you’re getting value for money

It goes without saying, but you also need to ensure that you’re getting your money’s worth; not just regarding the quality of the app but also concerning customer services and support. The developer should be willing to listen to your needs and keep communication channels open so you can follow up on the progress of the project. The company should also be transparent enough with their pricing, so you don’t end up with unforeseen fees.

Above all, keep in mind that there are also conmen out there who are out for nothing else other than to take your money and disappear. Do not fall victim to their traps.
