Xiaomi the brand which came up with some of their awesome products few year back and now they have taken place in almost every house because of great quality product that too in affordable pricing. Last year Xiaomi came up with a large screen phablet device MI max, which works quite well. Recently xiaomi launched there updated line up of MI MAX which is MI MAX 2. The screen is pretty similar but this time they have worked a lot on compactness, design and battery. They have launched MI MAX 2 in one color as of now which is black in India with the price of 16,999 INR. This time MI MAX 2 will also be available in offline market at the price of 17,999 INR as retailers will add their margin to it.

Xiaomi MI MAX 2 Design & Built

Xiaomi always comes with unique design in their every device. In Xiaomi Mi Max 2 also they have improved a lot when we compare the same with their previous MI MAX. This time they are offering full metal body construction with better compactness in large display, better battery and even extra gorilla glass protection. Due to metal body construction and large display it seems that device is bit slippery and tempered glass and a case is a must buy because they don’t offer the same in the package. But still, I would say the built of the device and feels is top notch and you won’t get even a single complaint about it that too in this affordable pricing.

At the front at the top, we get 5-megapixel shooter beside it different earpiece sensors and LED notification light which is a single color LED notification light and don’t know why they have removed the multi-color notification led from the front like the one we have in previous model. Coming to the front part there you will get a 6.4-inches very huge display.

Below that you get back capacitive keys which do light up and also support many other gesture features in them. These gestures are normal what we get in almost all xiaomi devices due to MIUI, there official ROM.

Coming to the down portion of the phone, it houses the USB Type-C port which do support fast charging beside it a dual speaker out of which left one having the primary MIC and right one is having an actual speaker in it. Type-C port also support OTG and it can almost play anything which you can think to use via USB port.

Turning around to the right you will get a power button which is made up of metal and give quite good haptic feedback. Beside power button, we get volume rockers and nothing much over here.

Turning the phone to the left, we only get a Hybrid SIM tray slot which supports dual nano SIM’s or single sim plus micro SD card that to up to 256 GB.

Coming to the top side of the phone here we get IR blaster which we can be seen in almost all Xiaomi devices and besides it houses a secondary noise cancellation MIC. We also get a 3.5 mm audio jack on the top which is being removed in Xiaomi Mi 6 which is a beast.

At the back side of the phone we are getting a 12-megapixel camera, beside it dual tone LED flash and below that we get a Fingerprint sensor which is really fast same like what we get in Redmi 4 and Redmi Note 4, but the thing is that if you are having small hands you can never reach out to the fingerprint sensor by using single hand. Very odd placement, with this large device i would say it should being placed in the front where everyone can easily use it.

Display

This time with Xiaomi Mi MAX 2 we were expecting to get something unique with QHD panel. But they have decreases the size of bezels and give us same Full HD panel with the resolution of 1980 x 1080 with the pixel density of 342 ppi.

Still, the thing is that the screen on the Mi Max 2 looks dark and crisp. It looks great when you’re watching video and playing games on it, when you are getting this big display in this price i don’t think you will be having any single complaint regarding it. This time they have also confirmed that they are using a Gorilla glass 4 protection on top of display which is really nice. We also get a 2.5D curved glass on top of display which makes it more smooth while using.

The screen visibility in different lighting situation is also good and even in bright sunlight you can easily use it with great auto brightness feature. Overall no complaints with the display, everything works fine and with this screen size I would say FHD is more than enough and it also won’t require more battery life with that large battery.

Performance

As we all know whenever Xiaomi comes up with something new it is always great. So as this time, Xiaomi MI MAX 2 delivers all what we can expect and need with the same the price bracket. Under the metal body construction of MI MAX 2 is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor supporting with an Adreno 506 GPU & 64GB of expandable storage via micro SD card slot. Coming to the performance part it is one of the smoothest phones till now and it is more polished because of their MIUI 8 and soon will be update in MIUI 9, which is one of my personal favorite ROM.

Coming to the usual benchmarks, MI MAX 2 scores 60220 in the AnTuTu Benchmark, which is quite good. These scores are measured after installing few games and other apps which might affect the score. As MI MAX 2 is equipped with 4GB of RAM, which makes the device which supports any kind of multitasking and for any kind of job. MI MAX 2 has already left so much free RAM to make it perform best.

From every aspect media, browsing and all multitasking, the MI6 works flawlessly with no question in mind. I have made a Gaming test and heating test so don’t forget to check it out. While high end gaming you need to low down the graphics else it might lag.

Battery

Coming the one of the very important aspect of the phone which is its battery, because by mean of battery only it will provide whole day juice to the phone. Here this time with MI MAX 2 we are getting 5300 mAh Battery, which is the only largest available battery in the INDIAN Market. For me it easily last me more than 2.5 days rest it depends on your usage. For normal users it will last more than 3 days for sure. This can be possible because of new snapdragon battery efficient processor plus well optimized MIUI 8.

The device houses with a USB Type-C port and also support Quick Charge 3.0 which make the device charge extremely fast. It takes about 2 hours 30 minutes to charge from 0% to 100%. Rest, it depends on your usage and work how to get better battery out of it.

We also get different battery modes which you can switch as per your usage and comfort. Each mode has its own specifications an features according to which we can select the mode for proper battery optimization.

Camera

When we see MI MAX 2, it seems to be the same that we get in Redmi Note 4. At the back we get 12-megapixel back camera which is support with Dual Tone LED flash. The best thing is that we can also record 4K videos using the phone.

At the front we get 5-megapixel camera which captures decent shots. Still what we can expect in this price. I have already made a separate video on camera features and shots so do check it out for better reference.

Software

Xiaomi MI MAX 2 out of the box is loaded with MIUI 8 which is the latest release from Xiaomi as of now. After the first boot i got the update for 2.2GB which make that MIUI 8 convert to Xiaomi MIUI 8.2. It is loaded with some really awesome features, and the best among them I like is the Dual app mode and Dual System using which you can live you personally and office life in two parallel ways. Soon we are also getting a update for MIUI 9.
