Xiaomi, the Chinese smartphone maker, generally known for its mid-range and budget smartphones is expected to come up with another device named Xiaomi Redmi S2 in the budget segment. The information has surfaced via firmware files obtained by @FunkyHuawei and FunkyHuawei.club, shared exclusively with XDA-Developers. The leaks indicate that Xiaomi is planning to launch a camera-centric smartphone in the budget range.

Just like the recently launched Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 and Redmi 5 Plus, Redmi S2 is expected to come with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor. The device runs on Android 8.1 Oreo with MIUI9. It will feature an almost bezel-less 1440 x 720 LCD display with 18:9 aspect ratio. The display will support HD+ resolution. The firmware files also indicate the availability of a microSD card slot for memory expansion. RAM size will be determined by the official TENAA listing. The Redmi S2 packs a 3,080mAh battery which when coupled with the Snapdragon 625 and optimizations introduced in Android Oreo should last a full day on a single charge.

Some of the various features that the Redmi S2 will provide on the rear camera setup are the EIS (Electronic Image Stabilization) and the portrait mode. The front camera setup will support the face unlock feature. There has been no news on the presence of a fingerprint scanner on the Redmi S2.

The firmware files explicitly reveal that there will be Indian and Chinese variants of the device. Xiaomi is gearing up for a launch event on April 25, 2018, where the Mi 6X smartphone is expected to launch. There might not be a separate launch event for the Redmi S2. There has been no official information regarding the Redmi S2 by Xiaomi yet.

Flipkart, India’s e-commerce giant, announced its three -year partnership with Taiwanese smartphone maker ASUS, under that agreement Flipkart will now be a premium seller for the latter’s smartphones. This tie-up will also define a roadmap for the launch of future ASUS Zenfone smartphones in India. Both the companies have signed a MoU that will make Flipkart the exclusive online seller for all the forthcoming Asus phones. Another announcement made by Flipkart is that the Zenfone Max Pro will be launched in India on April 23 and will exclusively be sold online.

The new Asus Zenfone Max Pro will be a mid-range smartphone that will be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 636, a processor that made its debut with the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro. Interestingly, even Xiaomi also considered launching the Redmi Note 5 Pro in India as a global release. Besides this, remaining features and specifications of the smartphone are not known as for now. The Zenfone Max Pro will go on sale starting April 23rd at 12:30 PM IST.

ASUS and Flipkart announced a long-term strategic partnership that will make Flipkart become an ASUS premier partner and sellers for smartphones. So far, the company has launched eight 2G smartphones by iVVO under BEATZ, PRIMO, SELFEE, TUFF, and VOLT series. They all have a 201-day replacement warranty as well as 12+3-month product warranty and will be available at 20,000 retailers, and over 900 service outlets making the scenario convenient to its customers.

There will be 3 smartphones under the product category BEATZ, two each under PRIMO, one each under TUFF, VOLT, and SELFEE. The company has also launched its first 4G feature phone SKIPPER with two Android Go 4G smartphones under series STORM.

All these handsets will range from Rs.649 to Rs.5999. The two 4G smartphones that are named ‘Storm Lite’ and ‘Storm Pro’ will be available in the amount of Rs 4,999 and 5,999 respectively. These two smartphones will have the latest Android Oreo (Go edition) that extends with an assured OS version update.
