Apple will kick up WWDC 2023 today with the keynote event where the firm regularly announces new features and updates for its various operating systems including iOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS, and tvOS. Reportedly launching on a whole new operating system called xrOS and including both augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) technology, Apple Reality Pro is the first mixed reality headset from the iPhone manufacturer. What to expect from WWDC 2023

As is customary, Apple is likely to unveil the specifics of its next operating system updates—iOS 17, iPadOS 17, macOS 14, tvOS 17, and watchOS 10—during the keynote presentation at WWDC. Apple Reality Pro, a highly anticipated mixed-reality headset, is also rumored to make its debut today. Recent rumors suggest that Apple will also unveil new MacBook and Mac Pro models during the event.

Apple has not confirmed the release of a mixed reality headgear, but a number of rumors and leaks have claimed the company is working on such a product, which would combine augmented and virtual reality technologies and operate on a new operating system called xrOS. Reportedly costing $3,000 (Rs. 2,47,500), it has high-resolution Micro OLED displays with peak brightness of over 5,000 nits and can be powered by an external battery pack.

iOS 17 and watchOS 10

Recent rumors suggest that with iOS 17, a charging iPhone might double as a smart screen. The upgrade will likely include a journaling app and other tools to improve users’ emotional health. It is also expected that the company’s Wallet and Health applications would be updated.

The European Union is also slated to be the first region where users may install apps from sources other than the App Store, a feature that will debut with iOS 17. In the meanwhile, watchOS 10 is said to have a whole new interface that places a greater emphasis on widgets and so presents more information at a look without requiring the user to navigate the screen.

Opt for USBs with a Password-Protect Feature

For starters, help yourself out by buying USBs that can be encrypted rather than those that can’t. Picking drives that enable you to protect them with a password means that if they get stolen or lost, other people can’t access their data, or at least not without working out how to break your code. You don’t want to plug a new USB in only to have it give cybercriminals access to your device and systems without you realizing it. It’s safer to utilize brand-new USBs you take out of the packaging and know are fresh and uninfected.  

Delete or Move Data to the Cloud 

Another tip is to delete the data you’ve put on USBs as soon as possible. Once you’ve used information or other content and don’t need it further, eliminate it. This week, India will launch a trial effort to attract tech giants like Flex to grow their operations in the nation by making it easier for them to import and export parts for electrical devices.

Even though Apple and Xiaomi have set up shop in India thanks to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s push for electronics manufacturing, the country still lacks a repair outsourcing industry, which is estimated to be worth $100 billion (roughly Rs. 8.2 lakh crore) globally and is currently dominated by China and Malaysia.

The Indian government will experiment with new policies in response to a request by MAIT, an IT and electronics manufacturing sector association, to reduce the time it takes to get import and export clearances from as much as 10 days to just one.

So that gadgets may enter India for repairs and then be transported out fast, the government has agreed to streamline the approval procedure for rapid approvals with the tax authorities, according to MAIT Director General Ali Akhtar Jafri.

In addition, corporations in India are hampered by an e-waste rule that forbids them from dumping unfixable devices in the country, driving up logistical expenses. The experimental program will enable domestic recycling of 5% of imported items.

In the trial phase, India will also allowed re-export of the imported electronics items to nations different from the original one; at now, this is prohibited under international trade regulations. Companies like Lenovo and Cisco will take part in the program.

Reuters’ inquiries for response from Flex, Lenovo, and Cisco went unanswered for some time. The Indian government’s information technology department also did not immediately comment.

Electronics manufacturers in India would be encouraged to increase their output if they can take advantage of repair outsourcing. According to Jafri, who predicted that India’s repair business will be worth $20 billion (about Rs. 1.6 lakh crore) in five years, this is a crucial step towards assuring resilience to supply chain shocks.

According to Jafri, corporations are shipping items abroad because of the high cost of repairs in developed nations. India, he said, has a 57% cost advantage over China and a 26% cost advantage over Malaysia because of its reduced labor expenses.
