After FaceApp, this AI is converting People’s Photo into a Renaissance Portrait

In the last couple of weeks, Face App went all viral among the audience. After Instagram filters and Snapchat masks, AI renders are the latest technology that can change the way you look. An enormous number of people of all the ages tried and used this application. Though the major turn off for this app was the application’s Terms and Conditions policy that claimed that user data such as pictures will be uploaded without the knowledge of the users. However, just like Face App, we have one more website set up by a team of MIT and IBM researchers. The name of the website is AIPortraits.com.

The main purpose of this website is to turn your boring selfies into works of Renaissance art. AIPortraits.com is an easy-to-use website. All you need to do is, upload your image and the site will provide you with the available options of the styles of an undefined renaissance artist. However, there is no way of choosing which style you would like your face to be rendered in. The website uses an AI model trained on 45,000 portraits. The styles of the portraits range from the early renaissance to the contemporary period.

Currently, the website is overloaded with traffic from wannabe art subjects. The website claims that it does not hinder the user’s privacy. The website does not request access to all the photos on the user’s phone. Any images uploaded to the site are deleted and not stored.

Government pushes for Solar Rickshaws at IIT campus in National Capital

The IIT Delhi Campus has the facility of e-rickshaw for the people inside the campus. It helps the students and teachers to reach from one department to another. Though this facility is very special and helpful for others it somewhat gets burdensome for the rickshaw-pullers. But now with the introduction of solar-powered hybrid rickshaws, the job of rickshaw puller gets easy.

Central Electronics Limited (CEL) has also decided to give solar-powered hybrid rickshaw to the rickshaw-pullers at IIT Delhi under a corporate social responsibility initiative.  300- Watt solar panels are used as the roof of the rickshaws. These panels are designed and manufactured by CEL.  Throughout the day, these panels are in their charging mode and that it will effectively double the distance that the normal rickshaw used to cover in a day. It only reduces the physical effort of the rickshaw-pullers but also helps them to earn more.

IIT Delhi director, Ram Gopal Rao has also said that “This innovation combines the traditional knowledge and modern technology to create peace among the environment, employment needs and convenience”

Dr Amod Kumar of Sukoon Solutions said that the solar hybrid rickshaw will ultimately Support rickshaw-pullers during acceleration and tough rides. The manufacturer also said that the ideal speed of the solar hybrid rickshaw is 10-15km/hour but the imported motors from China will let the vehicle reach up to 25km. Not only this much when it comes to the cost, An e-rickshaw costs around Rs 1.26 lakh, while a hybrid vehicle is priced for Rs 68,000

The vehicle can only ply inside the campus of IIT Delhi. As these hybrid rickshaws cannot be registered under the Motor vehicle act. Summing up everything, Hybrid rickshaws are one of the best innovation which doesn’t cost much.

HSM Vulnerabilities: Allowing Remote Access to Confidential Data

0

Data is “the new oil”.  As enterprises collect and collate massive amounts of data about their customer bases, they’re able to analyze this data to extract valuable intel about their clients.  While this data is valuable to the organizations, others want it as well.  As a result, organizations form partnerships to buy and sell data, and hackers do their best to break in and steal it.

The value of the data that organizations collect, store, transmit, and process makes data security a priority for any organization.  Beyond the personal costs of a data breach (the loss of the competitive advantage that the data provides), new regulations like GDPR and CCPA impose stringent standards for how organizations should collect, process, and protect their collected data and strict penalties for non-compliance.

Hardware Security Modules (HSMs) are a valuable tool for any organization wanting to properly protect certain sensitive information.  HSMs can hold encryption keys used to protect classified data and even perform sensitive data calculations.  Using one can be an important first step in an organization’s journey toward data security and regulatory compliance.  However, relying on an HSM to protect certain data means that the security of that data is only as good as the security of the HSM itself.  If the HSM is vulnerable, so is your organization’s sensitive data.

Also Read: Improve Your Business’s Performance Metrics with Data Analytics Services

What is an HSM?

Hardware Security Modules are designed to provide built-in physical security protections for technology that needs to perform trusted operations in an untrusted environment.  An example of this is an Automated Teller Machine (ATM), which is designed to provide bank customers access to their money at a location other than the bank’s premises.  These machines are commonly installed on street corners, in gas stations, and other locations.

Despite being located in untrustworthy places, ATMs are trusted to perform extremely sensitive computations.  From an ATM, you can check a bank balance and deposit or withdraw money from an account. Even without access to a given account, someone with physical access to the HSM may be able to trick it into dispensing the money that it contains.

This is where a Hardware Security Module becomes invaluable.  The HSM holds all of the cryptographic secret keys and performs all of the sensitive operations that determine whether or not money should be dispensed from the machine.  Traditional computing systems can be defeated with physical access (due to side-channel and injection vulnerabilities), but HSMs are specifically designed to be immune to physical attack, enabling machines like ATMs to operate in insecure locations.

Why Is HSM Security Important?

HSMs are billed as a self-contained solution for protecting cryptographic secret keys, so people use them as such.  With defenses against both physical and technological attacks, HSMs are an ideal storage medium for highly sensitive data.

This makes the security of these devices an extremely high priority.  Businesses using them properly may shrug off a breach of other systems since an attacker may only get away with an encrypted copy of sensitive data.  However, if they manage to breach the defenses of an HSM, they may be able to steal the cryptographic keys used to protect this data.  Under many privacy regulations, the difference between a breach of encrypted data and a breach of unencrypted data (or encrypted data with the associated decryption key) is the difference between a non-event with no reporting requirements and a significant breach that may carry fines in the millions (under GDPR and similar legislation).

Impacts of HSM Vulnerabilities

If an exploitable vulnerability is discovered in a Hardware Security Module, the potential impacts are significant, as demonstrated by the uproar and level of interest in the recently disclosed vulnerabilities in HSMs created by a leading manufacturer.

A pair of security researchers from the cryptocurrency hardware wallet creator LedgerOps have announced the discovery of vulnerabilities in a leading HSM.  The presented attack allowed the researchers to gain complete remote control of the HSM without the need for valid credentials.  The compromise included the ability to extract all secrets from the HSM (cryptographic keys, administrator credentials, etc.) as well as upload a modified firmware to the device, ensuring that any backdoors inserted by the attacker cannot be removed by a software update and making it do whatever the attackers want.

Also Read: Streamlining Data Workflows for Improved Efficiency

The potential impacts of these vulnerabilities are significant.  HSMs are commonly used by banks, cloud service providers, governments, and any other organization that has the need to provide absolute protection for cryptographic keys.  The vulnerabilities discovered in this HSM would be capable of causing significant harm to data, financial, and national security.

Why an HSM is Not Enough

Hardware Security Modules are an effective method of protecting cryptographic keys.  However, even secure HSMs may not be enough to secure a computing system.  HSMs are very effective at protecting the data contained within them; however, they can do nothing for the data stored outside or data in transit to and from the HSM.

HSMs make a great cornerstone of a data security solution; however, a comprehensive security solution requires discovering and tracking data throughout its lifecycle.  Advances in machine learning and data mining enable people to derive sensitive information through correlating large amounts of unclassified data.  If an organization doesn’t properly track and control access to its data not stored in HSMs (with a modern data security solution), it is still entirely possible for a damaging data breach to occur.

  • EroAdvertising is at 9%.
  • Cloudflare is at 7%.

Should you be worried?

As long as you’re watching porn secretly, or perhaps you’re into that BDSM thing maybe Google will let you go, no they will not. So, Y-E-S, you should be worried. It’s not about porn habit anymore, it’s about your data privacy. Do you want Google, Facebook to know that you’re watching porn? What kind of porn? What porn stars do you search for? What channel you mostly visit? Are doing camming or not? What is your sexual preference? Are you that comfortable to let a corporation know of your sexual habit?  I don’t think anybody should be that comfortable at all.

How are they even tracking when I’m on Incognito mode?

Okay, it’s very simple. Incognito mode only clears the history and cache files in your computer, so if you’re opening a porn website it’ll not keep history. But tools like site analytics, third party advertisement tracker are constantly tracking Porn websites, and the reason is Porn website receives a lot of visitors. In 2017, Pornhub alone had 28.5 billion unique visitors with users performing 50,000 searchers per second. Do you remember that annoying camming pop-up, yup, that’s what I’m talking about?

Why are companies tracking?

Answer: Data is oil. Trust me, it is. An adequate amount of data can give you enough market analysis that you’ll convert some of your marketing strategies to gain profit. But most of the tracking website forbids adult content, like Facebook, Youtube.

“We don’t want adult websites using our business tools since that type of content is a violation of our Community Standards. When we learn that these types of sites or apps use our tools, we enforce against them,” Facebook spokesperson Joe Osborne said in an email Thursday.

If that is true, then what is Facebook doing in the website analytics business in the first place? And how come there is a 10% tracking record? Google, on the other hand, earns most of its revenue from its analytics tool.

“In the US, many advertising and video hosting platforms forbid ‘adult’ content. For example, Google’s YouTube is the largest video host in the world, but does not allow pornography,” the researchers wrote. “However, Google has no policies forbidding websites from using their code hosting (Google APIs) or audience measurement tools (Google Analytics). Thus, Google refuses to host porn, but has no limits on observing the porn consumption of users, often without their knowledge.”

Yes, Google is tracking. Try going to the location history setting of your Android smartphone. Google, knows your location, your purchasing habit, they even have the voice recording of ‘Ok Google’ command that you gave for fun sake and now they are in your bedroom, doing what they do best.

A spokesperson from Google said “We don’t allow Google Ads on websites with adult content and we prohibit personalized advertising and advertising profiles based on a user’s sexual interests or related activities online. Additionally, tags for our ad services are never allowed to transmit personally identifiable information to Google.

Dr Elena Maris, a Microsoft researcher who worked on the study, told The New York Times “The fact that the mechanism for adult site tracking is so similar to, say, online retail should be a huge red flag,” she added “This isn’t picking out a sweater and seeing it follow you across the web. This is so much more specific and deeply personal.”

Is this conversation even leading somewhere?

Few things I do not understand, if the corporation is clear that they are not using data from the pornographic site in any mean, then why are they allowing porn website to use their tools at first place? And if they know they have the data, then what do they do with it? Do they delete it or do they use it for their own benefit? Because even If there is a fraction of chance that users’ data of porn sites are compromised then it’s a very serious issue. Because it’s not just another information, it’s something very-very sensitive and personal.

So, I do think this conversation is not leading anywhere, perhaps one or two decades later when these so-called corporations will be so vested in our life that there will be a legit Black Mirror episode. Then a banal netizen will raise its concern about data privacy. Until then, this is just a debate that one will forget the next day.

Netflix is all set to launch a 250 Rs smartphone-only plan in India

In a letter to its investors, Netflix has confirmed that it will be launching a cheaper plan in Q3. This plan is currently mentioned only for mobile devices for Indian users only. The company might have plans for expansion in other countries later as well. This new plan from Netflix is supposed to compete with other rivals in the industry like Amazon Prime Video and Hotstar, which are currently offering cheaper plan rates than Netflix.

[appbox googleplay screenshots com.netflix.mediaclient]

Netflix currently is offering three monthly plans ranging between Rs. 500 and Rs. 800 in India. In the letter, Netflix said,” After several months of testing, we’ve decided to roll out a lower-priced mobile-screen plan in India to complement our existing plans. We believe this plan, which will launch in Q3, will be an effective way to introduce a larger number of people in India to Netflix and to further expand our business in a market where Pay-TV ARPU is low. We will continue to learn more after the launch of this plan.”

[appbox appstore 363590051]

Netflix has tested a mobile-first plan in various countries as well that allows the users to watch Netflix content only on one smartphone or tablet at a time. Users won’t be able to access the content on television, PC, laptop or any streaming device. There is no news regarding the pricing, but the test runs earlier indicate that the pricing might be kept at Rs. 250 per month in India.

The change in pricing strategy by Netflix could be due to the dismal earnings and subscriber growth report. The company incurred a loss of $544 million in the past three months. Netflix had a low subscriber growth of only 2.7 million new subscribers when it was expecting to gain twice as many. The new mobile-only plan and the pricing strategy might actually work in the Indian Consumer Market and help the company boost its numbers.

What is SEO and How Can It Help Your Business?

Search engines are modern tools for information. The huge number of people that use search engines make appearing on the first page of a search result important. It also translates to your business’ website getting more exposure to potential customers. But before moving further it is very important to know what is SEO?

To be ranked highly by search engines, you have to make specific changes to your website. This is where SEO comes in.

SEO, or search engine optimization, is the process of making behind-the-scenes changes to your website to make it accessible, indexed, and shown in a prominent position on a SERP (search engine results page). But to fully understand SEO, you must first understand how search engines work.

What is SEO & How search engines work?

What is SEO
What is SEO

Search engines perform three basic tasks: Crawling, indexing, and ranking. The following is a breakdown of what those entail.

Also See: Practical Tips for Small Business SEO

Crawling

Search engines deploy bots and spiders — robots — that scour the web for information. They go from webpage to webpage, follow web links, and gather information on and about websites. They do this by checking your website’s HTML code.

Indexing

This next stage involves gathering, arranging, and cataloguing the information received by these bots. This is where the search engine determines which content is relevant and removes duplicate and irrelevant content.

Ranking

This is where the algorithm used by search engines categorizes websites and determines which content and website is most relevant.

When a search is entered in a search engine— called a search query— the search engine compares it against its index and draws out the most relevant content that matches that query. It places the relevant web pages on a list called an organic search result from the most relevant to the least relevant on a search engine results page (think Google search result page). The text used in the search query is called a keyword and is important for optimization.

Optimizing your website

Basic SEO can be done by carrying out on-page optimization and backlinking.

On-page optimization

This involves making changes to the elements on your web page to make it more search-friendly. These changes are usually in two forms.

HTML Title tags and Meta description

Crawlers read your web page’s HTML code, so you may want to add or adjust title tags and meta description. A title tag in your HTML code is not the title of the article that shows up on the page. The title tag, which is in the head of your HTML code, is an element that isn’t seen by humans but is checked by crawlers. The meta description, like the name suggests, is a brief description of the content on that web page. Crawlers use it to figure out what the content on that web page is about. Your title tag and meta description are what appear on SERPs.

Keywords and keyword placements

Keywords are the text entered into search queries. They are an important part of any SEO plan because search engines display content that matches these keywords. Adding specific keywords to your webpage will increase its chances of showing up for specific search queries. When choosing keywords, be sure to check that they are the same words your customers use when searching for your products or services online.

You can also check the other websites that your desired keywords return on SERPs. It is often a useful practice to extract relevant search result data from a large number of websites showing in search results, so as to compare your content with your competitors’.

Backlinks

A backlink is an incoming hyperlink from one webpage to another on a different website. Usually, one website acts as a resource to the other. Crawlers that follow links between web pages and search engines place a lot of importance on links because they act as a sort of reference or citation. The more websites that link to yours, the better. However, prominence is placed on the quality of links and not quantity, so it’s not just about getting links — it’s about getting backlinks from reputable sites.

SEO isn’t something you do just once, but rather an ongoing process. That’s why it’s important to work with companies like LinkGraph that provide SEO solutions for businesses. Such experts keep up with changes to algorithms and keyword queries, ensuring your SEO efforts are maximized to their full potential.

How integrating videos can significantly boost your SEO rankings?

0

Do you know how many websites are live on the internet at this current moment? Knowing the fact can scare you off, but ignoring the present scenario is not the way to go either. According to internetlivestat.com, there are around 1.7 billion sites on the internet. If you do the math, that is around one site for every four people living in this world.

A lot of things happen online in a single minute and here is a visual representation of those events.

It is crucial for you to do everything you can to earn the traffic, as staying idle and hosting your site will do no good for your organization. One of the most effective methods for quickly enhancing your website rank on Google is by integrating video to your website.

Why integrating video is a must for today’s SEO professionals?

Plenty of factors determine the ranking of your pages on Google.

The inclusion of video marketing in your SEO strategy touch many aspects of Google ranking factors that eventually improve your rankings on Google. Let’s check out how video marketing is now a vital part of SEO.

Make your audience spend more time on your site

The modern-day internet users have a lot of choices, which is good and also a bad thing for them. However, that plethora of online information has posed a lot of challenges for marketers. Many webmasters have difficulty in making their visitors stay on the site for a long time.

How integrating videos can significantly boost your SEO rankings? 3

Search Engines like Google does consider not only traffic but also the time that your visitors spend on the site. There is no point in having over a million visitors if your bounce rate is over 99.9%. Your website could fall in the blacklist of Google if that is the case.

The study finds that people who consume video content are 64-85% more likely to purchase. Here is one more fact, the top 100 search results now feature 70% video content. That number alone must have given a clue about the impact that videos have on the search ranking.

Search engine features videos

Search engines like Google make a lot of changes every year to improve their users’ experience. The popularity of videos has alerted Google as well, as YouTube is now the third most visited site in the world. Let’s take a look at what happens when you search on Google.

How integrating videos can significantly boost your SEO rankings? 4

You can see that Google was featuring videos on the top when I searched. It shows how a video can drastically improve your chances of getting on the top of Google. When Google features your video, you will also get a higher click-through-rate, assuming that you have an appealing title and great content.

Just imagine the potential of video by looking at this search result alone. Not only you have the power to make your channel accessible on your market, but you can also mention your site on the description, which can help you gain more visitors via your YouTube channel.

However, keep in mind that Google is also a business, so do not try to quickly divert your audience from YouTube to your site for backlinks and traffic. Only promote your website occasionally, so that you create a win-win situation for both YouTube and your business.

Supercharge your brand/site image

The authority of your domain is a critical ranking factor, and you should try your level best to boost your brand image. More people searching on Google directly by your brand name indicate Google that you are doing something that many people notice and love.

You can significantly lift your brand/site image by publishing videos regularly. Many studies have found that human brains process way faster than standard texts and the people also tend to remember the content they watch. If you keep on getting in front of your potential audience with top-notch videos over and over again, they will remember you by your name.
