With great success comes great bargain. Where on one hand “Spiderman: Far From Home” is the highest-grossing film ever in Sony’s pictures history on the other hand news is spreading like the fire in the jungle that Marvel Studios may be stepping away from the cross-studio partnership. As per the reports by the Hollywood trade deadline, there was a disagreement over the profit-sharing structure. Spider-man might be leaving the MCU because of the financial disputes between Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios’ parent company Disney.

Disney wanted a higher share of the profit i.e. 50-50 co-finance deal rather than the current 5 percent revenue share. Sony simply refused the offer because it does not want to share its biggest film franchise. Both of these American companies were not able to reach to a conclusion regarding profit sharing and hence marvel studios President Kevin Feige won’t be involved with future Spider-Man productions. It simply means that the characters might stop crossing over between the two Marvel universes.

After all the failed agreements, late on Tuesday, Sony Pictures updated on Twitter that though they are disappointed that final settlement was not done with the Disney but Kevin Feige has a lot on his plate as the newly added Marvel properties do not allow time to work on IP that they do not own.

Spider-man is one of the best-known characters in the MCU and Feigen would have continued working on making movies on this superhero only if Sony and Disney could have reached an argument.  For now, Sony has two Spider-man films in progress with Tom Holland set to repeating his title role.

Sony has received lots of blessings because of live-action Spider-Man movies since Spiderman 2 in 2004. Its only success was Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, which won much acclaim and an Oscar.

As per the news by Russian cyber-security Kaspersky on Monday, soon after the abolition of Article 370 and 35A by Indian Government, India has come under the threat of cyber attacks and the country needs to be more careful with respect to the security of websites and critical infrastructure.

Some of the websites are already hacked! On Sunday, the official website of the Bihar Education Department was hacked by Turkish hacker and he posted a message praising Pakistan and Islam. The message was – “We Love Pakistan”. Somehow the hacked portal was restored but chances are that such cyber-attacks can occur again and on large scale. Mr. Saurabh Sharma, the Senior Security Researcher, Global Research and Analysis Team (GReAT) APAC, Kaspersky, told IANS that INDIA is ranked 7th under the title of most cyber- the attacked country in the world. He also informed that for now, it is difficult to understand whether attacks are state-sponsored attacks or not.

As per the data are given to the Parliament by the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In), over 24 websites of central ministries, departments, and state governments were hacked till May. To this, the IT Minister, Mr. Ravi Shankar Prasad said in a written reply in the Lok Sabha that cyber threat attempts have been made from to launch cyber-attacks on Indian cyberspace. He also added that these attacks were seen to be originating from countries like China and Pakistan.

As for now, our country is under the major threat of cyber-attacks and we need to be careful when it comes to the security of India’s website and critical infrastructure. The Kaspersky executive also said that India needs to be careful especially when there are cyber-attackers that are ready to exploit our vulnerabilities in the name of cyberwar between countries.

Cure. Fit is a Bengaluru-based fitness and wellness tech start-up.  For now, the start-up had to pause on its latest product launch named as Gym. Fit. The order came as a temporary instruction for Bengaluru-based gym booking marketplace BookYourGame by Bengaluru City Civil Court.

The Bengaluru City Civil court, on August 7 has inhibited Cure. Fit start-up company to launch, promote or sell any product or service which uses the name like ‘Gym. Fit, CultX, and Sports.fit’, in any manner until the next hearing which is scheduled on September 11, 2019.

BookYourGame (BYG) claimed in its petition that Cure.fit made an offer to acquire BYG for about INR 5 Cr in the month of June. However, after placing the offer and once the exchange of crucial data and intellectual property was done, Cure.fit disclaimed the offer made to BYG. The petition also says that employees of BYG began to be inducted as an employee of Cure.fit. In the start, the employees were welcomed and greeted but slowly in order to show loyalty to Cure.fit. BYG and its employees obeyed the instructions of Cure.fit and they begin to share confidential information.

Basically, Cure.fit uses an online and offline medium to offer:

1. physical fitness (Cult.Fit)
2. mental fitness (Mind.Fit)
3. nutrition (Eat.Fit)

All these offers by Cure. Fit is under the primary vertical named as care vertical (Care.Fit). The company ensures that the bookings for these training through a smartphone application where users can sign up for new classes or sessions.  The company was now all set to launch a national gym subscription called Gym. Fit, which bundles up all the gyms across the city. But because of the allegations by BYG all the launch and marketing under the name ‘Gym. Fit, CultX, and Sports.fit’ has been paused. Cure. Fit also reverted back to the allegations and said that the transaction never proceeded to definitive closure and neither the formal on-boarding of the BYG employees took place. The start-up also added that a fair breakaway fee was also offered to BYG and that Gym. Fit is the Cure.fit’s own internal initiative that has nothing to do with BYG. The company said that because of some potential legal and compliance issues in BYG’s operations the company called off the proposed deal with BYG.

However, the case between Cure.fit and BookYourGame sounds similar to the case of OYO and Zo Rooms (Zostel) in 2016.  Even today no decision has been taken by the court when we consider the case of OYO and Zo Rooms (Zostel). A Beijing based electric scooter manufacturer named Segway-Ninebot Group which is one of the largest suppliers for scooter-sharing companies such as Bird and Lime. has revealed the recent scooter that they have been working on. On Friday the company unveiled information regarding a scooter that can return itself to the charging stations without the driver. The scooter is named as KickScooter T60.

At a Segway-Ninebot product launch event in Beijing on 16th of August, Ninebot president Wang Ye unveils semi-autonomous scooter KickScooter T60 that can return itself to charging stations without a driver. The company also said that Uber and Lyft services are expanding into scooter sharing and will be available among the customers in the form of new semi-autonomous vehicles. These vehicles are expected to hit roads early next year. Adding up to this, Ninebot chairman, Gao Lufeng said that these autonomous scooters will be AI-driven and will be controlled remotely from the cloud and this could eventually improve the economics of the scooter-sharing.  The chairman also said that the pain point or the major difficulty faced by the scooter operator is to maintain the scooters at a lower cost as for now the operators of the scooter sharing fleets have to collect the machines manually for recharging. With the arrival of semi-autonomous vehicles, the scooter operators work will become less hectic.

As per the information available, the new scooter will be priced at close to 10,000 yuan ($1,420), more than the company’s traditional scooters, which it sells to scooter companies for $100-$300. The new vehicle will start road testing next month and will be commercially launched in the first quarter of 2020.

Gao Lufeng, Ninebot chairman and chief executive said that according to him semi-autonomous scooters will replace bicycles as the prime solution for micro-mobility. Apart from semi-autonomous vehicles, the company has also launched two robots. One for outdoor delivery and the other one for indoor services.

This summer at a conference in Shanghai, Pan Jian-Wei and his team introduced some of their work which they have been describing as “REVOLUTION”

Beijing is investing billions into research and development and hence providing an opportunity to all the Chinese scientists to return home from western labs and work on all the innovative research that their county is planning on.

China’s drive has demanded more funds from the United States for Research and development to support China’s quantum Ambition. This call from china has triggered the concerns in the Trump administration that any sort of scientific collaboration with China may help in promoting people’s liberation army and hurting US interests.

Last year as per the market research firm Patinformatics, china had nearly twice as many patent filings as the United States for quantum technology. Pan, often known as “Father of Quantum”, by Chinese media is 49 years old and is working with 139 researchers in order to help oversees china’s program from his labs at the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC), in Shanghai and Hefei. Pan was appreciated for his efforts in 2017 via journal named Nature that addressed him among the “Top 10 people who mattered this year.” Not only this much Chinese President Mr. Xi Jinping often visits Pan’s lab as he has a very keen interest in Pan’s work. Pan is also working on setting a new national lab for quantum research in Anhui province.

At the event in Shanghai, Pan explained the difference between the quantum particle and the bits that are used in today’s technology through numerous examples. He gave detailed information on how china is harnessing quantum bits or qubits to safeguard its communication from hacking. He along with his team is planning to launch a constellation of satellites and a nationwide fiber-optic network that use qubits to securely transmit information. On this, some of the western scientists say that the complete network can complicate US efforts to eavesdrop on China’s government or military communications.

Most of the Chinese researches who spoke at the event have spent years of studying overseas and the slide deck prepared by them was full of humorous references to western pop culture and events. These researchers have done their PhDs from universities such as Stanford and Cambridge. Most of the technologies they all are working can be used in both the commercial and defense departments.

Where on one hand few of the scientists kept their point regarding the quantum tech issues, Pan said that he has strongly believed that collaboration would only bring rewards and achievements in quantum science. For now, China is focusing on building a quantum computer. A fully functional quantum computer that has the ability to be transformative and is capable for greater calculation power that could identify new chemical compounds to treat intractable diseases and eliminate traffic snarls by predicting and managing the flow of vehicles. The only concern is that the machine can then eventually crack all the existing forms of encryption which in return is a cause of major worry for militaries, governments, and businesses that handle sensitive data.

The Chinese researchers have so far reported that they have a 12- quantum bit processor that uses superconducting technologies which are similar to Google’s and IBM’s. Lu Chaoyang, a young physicist said that the idea of developing a quantum computer came 40 years back and there is still a long way to go in order to design and develop a fully functional quantum computer. In the end, Lu quoted a line of “Harry Potter” author J.K. Rowling, who spoke that “It’s important we set achievable goals for experiments so we can continuously progress.”
