GPS nowadays is playing a vital role in many of our technologies. For an instance, it allows us to navigate through different directions when we are driving, tracks how far we are running during workouts, helps to respond in emergencies and much more.

In Spite of GPS being pervasive and essential in our daily basis,  we realize that we don’t know much about GPS and taking it for granted. As far as i know what I knew about GPS is that satellites transmit their location and with its use you can solve your own location in 3d space.

But I came to know that there is much more than that. Let’s have a look.

1. GPS is not Unique

GPS in one from different space-based radio navigation systems. Europe has its own Galileo system, Russia has its own GLONASS system and China has its own BeiDou system.

However the GLONASS is the only system in Russia offering the global coverage, less accurate than GPS. And Galileo is expected to reach the global operational capacity by 2019 and BeiDou by 2020.

These space-based radio navigation is important for many military applications, so that one country may not need to rely on other in case of hostilities. The Indian military learned this well at the time of Kargil war in 1999, when they were selectively denied access.

2. US Government has its own GPS

Alike all advanced technologies, GPS took a birth out of the military during the Cold War. Nuclear deterrence meant the capacity to launch nuclear weapons at the enemy’s homeland.

To fire ballistic missiles from the nuclear submarines basically needed the location of the enemy’s submarine. And thus GPS was meant to be best navigation system for submarine-launched ballistic missiles.

Though the cold war was ended 4 years before the Soviet Union was collapsed, GPS become operational in 1995. Before highest quality of signal was reserved for the use of military but in 2000, GPS was  freely available to the public as a national resource.

3. 32 GPS Satellites are currently present in the orbit

For achieving global coverage for GPS, 24 satellites are needed. The first from 24th was launched in 1989 and the 24th in 1994. GPS satellites last only about 10 years and they need servicing often during their lifetime and that is the reason why there are 32 GPS satellites present in the orbit. The extra ones fill the gap when the core satellites are services, so that the coverage is maintained.

But the question arises why 24 satellites are needed in the first place.

4. Minimum 4 GPS Satellites are needed in Line-of-Sight

Constellation using 24 GPS satellites make sure that minimum 4 satellites are within line-of-sight of any location on Earth  every time. The number is 4 since GPS calculates your exact position. Each satellite sending signals include the exact time that the signal is sent and the position of the satellite  relative to the center of the Earth.

We know well that the speed of light is constant, so it takes time for the signal from GPS satellite to reach you, multiplied by the speed of light, is the distance between you and the satellite. Moreover, we also know the positions of each satellites, so calculating by geometry, we can make use of satellite locations and the known distance to figure out our own location.

You must be wondering “ I hardly use three equations for three unknowns, but what about the fourth one? Well, there is a fourth unknown. We don’t actually know the exact time it took the signal to travel from the satellites to you.

5. Accounts General Relativity

According to Albert Einstein, “Time moves faster for objects that are further from sources of gravity”. Since, satellites are far away from the earth, their clock run 38 microseconds faster per day than clocks on Earth’s surface. This depicts that GPS locations would be off as much as 6 miles per day.

And thus, the fourth unknown variable is the time derivation from the atomic clocks on GPS satellites. And these four satellites are used for the determination of precise location. And however, the advantage of this system is that….

6. GPS not only determines Location

The accuracy for the GPS time signals is within 10 billionths of a second, that is only second to atomic clocks themselves. And thus GPS determines exact time that is actually vital for the time-related applications.

In our daily lives, cellular networks, banking systems, financial markets and power grids are all dependent on GPS for  precise time synchronization. Even in the communication sector GPS timing allows synchronized call handoffs. Moreover, in financial sector as well, GPS timing allows financial transactions to be accurately timestamped.

Opening it further we get a user manual and finally it’s in English if you guys want to read it, after that we get a high quality curved tempered and it has some kind of blue tint on it, which looks good, this is not enough we also get a high-quality silicon case with the package. And wait we also get a phone stand or we can use the same for holding the phone by putting a finger in it, we just need to stick it onto the back of the phone.

After that, we get a power brick which doesn’t support fast charging as it gives the output of 1.5amp, and a micro USB cable, we also get a sim ejector pin within the box. After boot here we got our first update with some minor fixes, we do it later. We can also change different themes as per our usage. Now coming to the setting part, about the phone we get Android 6.0 out of the box expected Android 7 updates by next few weeks, We get approx. 25GB free out of 32 GB internal storage. We get 1.9GB ram free which is a good sign for this device. Rest overall first impression is smooth.

Today we having a headphone with us from brainwavz, the Brainwavz HM2, which is selling in 3k Bracket in India as well as for 50$ globally. Actually I was eagerly waiting for these headphones to test, because already heard a lot of stuff before from other reviewers, but never experienced it personally.

So, starting first with the package part, here we get a normal box with Brainwavz branding at the top, coming to right side it shows what all content is there inside the box which we are going in see in very short span of time, coming to back we get some other specification and at the left we get all the info about the brand as well as for the product.

Opening the box first we get hard carry case with brainwavz logo on it, and this red black color really looks good and material used for making the case it really high quality.  When we open up the case first we get a warranty card and primarily the headphone.

We also got two pairs of detachable cable within the package. The difference between both the cable is that, one cable is having onboard MIC, Volume control Slider and a Call Pic and Cancel button whereas the other cable id=s a normal high-quality OX cable and nothing new. The best part I like is the quality and the cables are detachable, one thing I forgot to mention is that earphones are foldable and we can easily place them in our small bags just by folding them and detain the cable if you want. The headphone are covered with proper rubberize coating with a silver circular chrome on both side.

The ear pads included on the cups are made up of leather and feels good on the ear. It doesn’t cause a lot of heat, although it does get a bit sweaty sometimes in summers. The headphones can easily fit big heads too, as it offers enough headroom for all head sizes because we can extend it using the metallic extender used by the company. The overall construction of the headband is rigid.

We tested different tracks, like, Hindi, English, Bass, Classical and various other and I would say I am impressed with the proper bass and treble we get. They sounded really well on all devices. We get really good punches of bass and Mids were perfect.

When we start using Equalizer take my words there we get way more differences, and thus making the headphones a lot more loveable. These headphones sounds good without equalizer but if you use equalizer that good sounds converts into great as per your choice. It actually enhancing the listening experience.

Airtel launches a Android based set top box that converts any television into a smart TV just like a normal TV box we import. It comes with built in content apps including Netflix, YouTube and soon Amazon Prime, and Chromecast for viewing the content on TV screens directly.

The pricing for Internet TV set top box is set at Rs 4,999 for three months and Rs 7,999 for a year, for new users, and if you are a existing Airtel User than you have to pay Rs 3,999, with content and TV channels bundled in.

“This is an industry first as it provides seamless integration of viewing online and offline content on a bigger screen,” said Sunil Taldar, chief executive officer and director of DTH (direct to home) business at Bharti Airtel. 

“We’re in discussions with Amazon Prime to be pre-built into the set top box,” he added.

The product is going to be sold exclusively on Amazon.in starting from April 13. After that you can purchase it on offline bases also so need to worry for it. The product will be sold using other online partners such as Flipkart and Snapdeal after a month.

The company is also giving upto 25 GB free every month to existing broadband users who sign up for the Internet TV set top box which seems to be great but the point is that when we are watching any Television using Internet TV will that extra 25GB will be enough?. As per the company the product is priced very affordably when it is being compared to other services providers in the market.

This is not enough from Airtel because Internet TV also comes with inbuilt-Wi- Fi receiver, Bluetooth based remote control and is integrated with Google voice search feature, which allows users to search for different content by taking into the touchscreen remote.

TO offer better interface, Airtel ‘Internet TV’ STB is 4K content ready which enables LIVE TV shows to be paused, recorded or even rewind  via USB (external HD) and Bluetooth. Customers can even also mirror cast from their mobile devices, tablets and laptops on to the TV screen.

Finally the most important part is that the service requires minimum 2Mbps broadband speed or a 4G hotspot connection for a smooth online experience. A regular Airtel Digital TV dish antenna will also be a part of the installation. Existing Airtel Digital TV customers can also upgrade their existing set top boxes to the new boxes.

The only thing which bother to me is that are airtel giving that amount of DATA in India which can be used for watching Internet TV.
